Jennifer are., it is true that skin heals the micro tears but think about 20 years down the line your skin cell turnover is going to be a lot slower. if you don't want to use chemical peels I highly reccomend using that scrub on your body and not the face. chemical peels arent bad it just depends who you go to.

I don't use St Ives but I have been curious about the micro tears and skin healing. I just bought the Olay Pro-X which is a cheap version of the Clarisonic that I've read positive reviews on, so hopefully that'll be good for exfoliation.

Yeah I learned that bacteria can go inside those micro tears while its healing. and sometimes it doesn't heal up fast enough. which did makes a lot of sense haha. yeah I've heard great things about the olay pro x!! let me know how you like it. clarisonic brush heads gets really expensive at times.. esp when times get rough Hahaha ;)

There's a reason they use crushed walnut shell to remove paint and powder coat from metal... Way too rough for human skin! I'll stick with a washcloth and palmolive. Keeps my skin nice, even with my skin condition (which makes my skin dry and crack).

I hated it I literally got two noticeable cuts from it they were super small and easily covered with makeup but they were noticeable to the naked eye.

@Sophia yep, the same! It is gentle and removes makeup without drying out skin. It was originally made as a ladies' face soap, then they started using it on dishes because it cuts through grease without ruining your gorgeous hands, lol.

Ahhh not sure about that. palmolive has a ph level of 7.5 and our skin is 4.5-5 on the ph scale. (sorry I'm not trying to sound like a know it all but this stuff gets really interesting to me. ) skin on our hand is way different then the skin on our face. I'm pretty sure it can damage our skin with long term use. & even if it was originally made as a ladies face soap why isnt it still on the market. I use palmolive on my makeup brushes and when I'm on my 3rd or 4th brush my hands are extremely dry. it does make a great makeup brush cleaner. if you like the feeling of palmolive on the skin I think you should give cerave foaming face wash a try :D.

Exfoliation can be done in a variety of ways. Whether its a homemade or store bought scrub, a glove or any type of abrasive tool, or even a brush. a Anything used too harshly or too excessive is not good for the skin. The main concern is that all forms of exfoliation are not equal. Different skin types require different care just like any thing else we use on our skin. My grandmother exfoliates with a simple washcloth and dove soap because her skin is sensitive and shes been doing that for years n years and her skin looks fab! its nice to talk about these things but at the end of the day do your research and do what works for you. I personally use st Ives scrub once every week but the sea salt one thats actually made for the body. my skin is very oily so its perfect for removing the build up of oil on my face that my regular face wash does not completey remove and well as a mild exfoliation. would I recommend that to everyone? absolutely not. but for my skin it works.

I really wanted to like this, but I just don't. My skin is pretty sensitive, but more to fragrance etc.than exfoliation. I loved the smell, and the fact it was quite creamy, but it just dragged far too much on my skin for me. Such a shame, I really wanted to love it :(

What's a good homemade scrub? I have flaky patches and haven't found a store bought one that doesn't dry keep out.
