As above really, I want to dye my blonde hair either completely lilac or have a couple of lilac sections, do you think I can still pull off professional? I work in an office in HR.......

I think you can pull off lilac sections and still be professional. But really it depends on your what the culture is like at your work.

I think it completely depends on your work environment and your boss. If you have to meet and greet a lot of professionals, maybe not, But if you do mostly data entry or phone calls, you could probably get away with it. You could even ask your boss beforehand if it's OK.

i would ask your boss first. i think the streaks would go over better than a full dye job. have you considered clip in extensions that you can remove easily for work?

I would say if you would be better off if it's more on the silver side rather than the purple side. Definitely check with your boss beforehand!

HR department....I would say no. Speak with your direct supervisor first before doing something as drastic as that.

Hi All, thanks for your comments. I suppose it is a bit drastic! Maybe I'll try slices or clip in extensions. I'm just bored of my hair, must hold in my impulsive tendencies!! xx

I have to agree w/ it depends on your work culture... it varies greatly depending on the environment in which you work. Rules regarding dress code seem more lax in younger work environments at start-up companies, or if you are in a design-related field that encourages individuality and uniqueness. =)

I had the same situation last summer. As an office manager at the time I asked my boss if it was ok if I went with turquoise tips. She didn't mind, but when I started interviewing other places I hid the turquoise dip dye with various bun styles. The chalking suggestion was really good, you have fun on fridays but not make any serious hair commitments.

Never hurts to ask. While I believe no one should ever be judged based on their appearance, people still get stuck in that time warp of judgementalness. I've worked at very progressive places where anything goes so long as you don't look like a slob, & I've also worked places that required women to wear pantyhose year round (which reallyshould be considered sexist at this point to make those kind of regulations.)

I don't think so. Most larger companies here have policies against it - as part of the dress code, your hair can be natural colors only. In addition, I don't think it looks professional (although I have seen it done very well, it may offend people and it is definitely out of the norm). I just wouldn't risk it with your job, even if they don't specifically disallow it. It has the potential to affect other's opinions of you negatively (because of the stereotypes about people with "unnatural" hair color), and you don't want that at work. I think it would be easier for you if you didn't, but if you do GL and I hope it changes opinions of those who would otherwise think negatively about it.
