I have a good friend who is now discovering herself because for so long she had such a low self-esteem of herself. I took her to Sephora the other day and she was excited by the new Stila eyeshadow palette. We couldn't stick around for long but now I'm thinking of getting her that palette along with a few other goodies. She normally just wears black eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss. I want to put together a sweet basket of all things make-up for her. What do you ladies and gents suggest I get for a fair-skinned, green-eyed gal?

A great gift idea, especially for someone who is new to makeup, are the starter kits a lot of company's offer. You get smaller versions of the essential products that way if you don't like something you didn't waste a ton of money on the full size. I posted a link to some below. Hope this helps!

I know that Sephora carries a little package with all types of different high-end sample size mascaras, that would be a good little gift especially if she's prone to just wearing that, she can test out all of the brands and she which one she likes best. :)

I was thinking about those sample size products that are grouped together from various brands. I'm having fun just looking and I look forward to surprising her with it. :)

last christmas i actually made a 'goodie' bag of all of my favourite makeup products for my mother in law and my sister, i added basic but necassary products like eyelid primer, face primer, mascara, black eye liner, lipgloss pack, basic neautral lipstick and i added 2 nail polishes and an eyeshadow quad with neautrals.
you really want to choose the basics like mascara and eyeshadows, try staying away from foundations and concealers because you might not know their specific shades.

Oh and grab a cute bag, with tissue paper and a bow ;)

Collect all the makeup samples you can every time you visit for things you think she might be interested in! I usually make sure I leave with at least a sample when I visit my local MAC counter if I don't see anything that interests me, but I know a friend might like what I found for them.

I also agree with the pinky blush, oh, and introducing a makeup noobie to highlighters is always fun to watch. It's one of the few things that many neglect in their daily makeup routine that gets the "Oooohhh's" and "Ahhh's" when it's applied to them.  =D

Well, taking in everyone's awesome suggestions I went to Sephora this morning and I had a blast picking out stuff for her....

Stila in the Garden Eye Shadow Palette

UD Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original

Josie Maran Argan Care for Beautiful Skin Set

Too Faced Natural Face Radiance Face Palette along with TF Glosses in Plush and Barely Legal

I also did a gift card so she can pick out a few things on her own in addition just so she can receive the thrill of shopping. The MUA that I've used on a few occassions offered to give her a free make-over using the items I picked up and I can't wait to see her face when she opens it up. At the last minute I switched up from a basket to just getting her this sweet traincase that I spotted at ULTA. I'm putting all the goodies in that and placing it in this huge box. @Soma S. when I told the Sephora rep what I doing she ran around collecting samples. And I didn't even ask. Super duper excited. I'm giving it to her tonight. :)

The look on her face last night was absolutely PRICELESS!!!! She loved it all and I think I created a make-up junkie. She's just been thru so much this past year and it was so cool to see her smile from ear-to-ear. Thank you everyone for the awesome tips and ideas. :)
