Hey everyone! So, here's my YouTube story. I have been watching beauty videos since fifth grade and wanting to join the world of makeup and fashion videos for just as long. I started channels (at different times) to delete them in the end. I loved filming and still do, but how can I convince my parents to let me put up videos for the world to see? There are stalkers and creeps all over the internet, so how can I explain that there are some really great people as well? I am 14 years old, and my mother has been contemplating letting me put up videos for about a year. What's your story? How did you convince your parents (if you had to)? Got any advice for me? How young did you start? :)

Well honestly hun, I don't think very many dudes go around watching beauty videos, especially not grown ones. Its mostly young girls as far as I can tell... or women in their 20s. There are a few exceptions. As long as you don't give out personal information about where you are, your age, and things like that, you shouldn't be targeted by creepers. If any creepers do make it to your page and leave comments there is a nifty feature where you can delete their comments and block them. In extreme cases you can notify youtube and their account can get deleted. At your age I do fully understand why your parents wouldn't want you putting yourself online. They don't know what you are doing when you post things, unless they are right there watching you do it. I'd tell them they are free to watch you record, edit and post, and even dictate if you look apropriate, if that is what it takes. Don't do anything they tell you no to. All that will do is make them angry and you feel guilty. Respect whatever decision they make. If they say no, wait a few years when you are an adult and can make the decision for yourself. Good luck with everything hun.

i started when i was a sophmore, i think that as long as you don't reveal any personal information , your pretty well off , i actually didn't tell my parents i was making videos until after i started making them, and they never really said anything because they saw that it was nothing bad, but every parent is different

I sat down with my mom about 2 months ago and explained to her why I'd really like to do this. She already knew about my love for makeup so it was just a matter of assuring her and my dad that I'd be super careful about the information I put out there and she wanted to watch my videos to see exactly what I was doing it. I think what really sold them was the fact that if I start doing well I might make a couple dollars off it and they wouldn't need to feed my makeup addiction anymore.
Just try and be understanding about what they're telling you and listen to them. DON'T make videos if they say no. Wait a little bit longer and ask again.

I originally started a little after high school graduation (2009), but I had to quit because my camera wasn't cooperating with my computer. Then I learned I could just take my memory card out, ha, and started making videos again on my birthday (2010 July 16). So I've been doing that since. My parents~ aren't really parents, so they don't care about this stuff. They don't pay attention to what I do at all, really. I started making videos since I was always watching makeup tutorials and I wanted to do my own.
