Anyone try the Dukan diet? Or heard anything about it? I'm kinda skeptical.

That's so funny because I heard about it on the news last night, they are saying it's controversial and Mr Dukan and France are battling it out in court. I started reading about all the levels of the diet, "attack," "cruise," etc. I was considering it still--I know what my limits are when it comes to diets and crash diets..we'll see!

Well, I've been doing it for a month now and I've lost about 12 pounds. I'm not sure what the controversy is, but I can tell you I had to read A LOT of info before starting this diet as there more to it than just being low carb. Also, it's not a "crash diet;" it's more of a lifestyle adjustment - which I think makes it easier to do than other diets. And it really makes sense: it's not a lot of fatty protein (like how you can eat bacon and butter on Atkins) or really low calorie (like many fad diets). The all protein part only lasts a few days (I did it for 2 - depends on how much you have to lose), then you switch to alternating days of all lean protein and protein and non-starchy veggies. You also have to have a certain amount of oat bran a day, drink a liter and a half of water and walk for 20 minutes-30 minutes every day. After the second phase when you reach your goal weight you add two pieces of whole grain bread and fruit every day - plus a cheat meal every week. That phase lasts a long time and is meant to stabilize your weight and get you used to your new way of eating.
It's really very easy to adapt to; I wanted to do it to "retrain" myself how to eat properly in addition to losing weight. I love being able to eat as much as I want - your portions are not limited (except the oat bran - you get a tablespoon and a half a day but you can make little pancakes out of it!). The best part is you start to see results immediately so it's very encouraging; I lost 5 pounds the first week and then it tapered off to a couple pounds a week. I think everyone should discuss it with a medical professional, but it really has been working for me.

I think the best way to loose weight is to have a balanced diet.
As soon as you cut a certain food type out, you can lose weight but as soon as you eat it again you will re gain.

I've been reading French Women Don't Get Fat and it's really helping me make better food choices.

It's really good. It's not about banishing certain foods or denying yourself, it's about training your mind to make better choices about food. I've lost 2 pounds. It's been a week.

I would talk to my doctor before I started a diet like that just to be safe.
