So I went to the dermatologist for my acne and she prescribed the epiduo cream at night and to take oral pills called solodyn (minocycline) has anyone ever taken these and seen results? I'm running out of ideas and also my doctor did inform me that they could take 2-3 months to see results but I'm desprite to try to!

Minocycline is a mild antibiotic. Everything works different for everyone especially internally. Just make sure to keep the skin clean and moisturize - I know a scary word for those with oily/acne prone skin. Try a gel moisturizer like Korres' Pomegranate Gel Moisturizer and always wear sunscreen. You won't know until you try it :). Good luck and be sure to share with us your results! xoxo.

I've taken minocyclene before. Saw a little improvement but not much. Also be careful if you're on birth control -- antibiotics will make it less effective! Also I don't think they're very good for you to take long-term, and your body can actually get used to them and not respond anymore.

Thank Alicia and Hannah! I am still hesitate about taking it! I am not sure what I am going to do!!

Solodyn worked great for me. occasionaly I will get a pimple way under the skin that would stay for months. and these in my opinion are miracle pills. you have nothing to loose by trying it it can't hurt

What mg are you on and how often do you take them Danny?

Was on 65mg. I've tried both the brand name and generic version. everyone one says there the same I disagree the brand name worked 100 x better. so I would recommend that. I don't take them anymore my skin has calmed down. when I did take it it would be once a day for a few months at a time. I saw a difference not only in the reduction of a cystic pimple but also the clogged pores that would be slightly raised dramaticly improved and were easily able to be extracted. this was my experience and everyone is different. the solodyn along w the epiduo I would say you would definitely see an improvement. like I said it won't hurt you I'd dive it a go. also have you tried doing a glycolic peel either at home or at the derm. those help acne a lot too. there is also something called blue light therapy at a derm or spa helps kill bacteria.

How long until you saw results Danny? And I have never heard of the glycol if peel or blue light therapy.

Honestly I don't think it was long maybe a month. I don't know how bad your acne is so your results maybe different. I would look into the peels. they can be expensive so cam the blue light depending on where you are by me it $200 a treatment. the blue light is recommened in sessions to see results. if that's to much peter Thomas wroth makes peel pads called unwrinkle I swear they have saved me trips to the derm. they are marketed for anti aging but work really well for acne. if your going to use the epidou just be carefull depending on how sensitive your skin is. if I use them I generally skip my retin a that night.

Nicole why are you not sure if you want to take the solodyn? did you hear something bad about it?
Jun 13, 2013

I heard some things about it not working at all, it's just that I hate taking pills lol like I don't even take Advil or Motrin when I have a headache lol I'm so afraid to try something like this.

I will deff look into those pads! And my acne is not terrible, over all my skin is not that bad, just a couple of cystic pimples and white heads but nothing like insanely crazy that's why I am kind of hesitate to try the pills, but I guess if it's cystic acne I need the strong stuff lol.

Nicole sounds similar to the way my skin was. like I said it eventually normalized and now have minimul issues. yes cystic acne can be a big pain and may need a kick start to clear it up. up to you but the solodyn won't hurt I had no bad effects what so ever. if its just a bad pimple every so often you could go get a cortisol injection for it too. good luck.

Thanks Danny! I am just waiting for the insurance company to give my pharmacy authorization to give me the pills because obviously I am trying to have my insurance cover a good chunk of it lol and thank you for all of your help!

Your welcome yes you definitely want the insurance to pay for it, especially if your going to try to get the brand name and not the generic they are rediculously expensive. the generic is way less
