Hi! So i'm planning on dying my hair a blood/cherry/wine red, and after a ton of research ive seen that manic panic semi-permanent dye is a favorite of many. I also am aware that red is the hardest color to maintain...
I was planning on dying my hair (no bleach, my hairs a light brown) with Garnier Nutrisse True Red 66
then re-dying once a month/ every 5 weeks with this product.
thoughts?

Hey, I went red about a year ago and I absolutely love it!! Although like you said it is very hard to keep up because it does fade soo fast (mine generally is real bright for about two weeks) How light brown is it? Because mine is a darker brown and I lighten it or it will never show up. I think you have a good plan, although I have heard that Garnier's hair dye is not the best... I personally dont use box dye. But I would say just check into it :) Best of luck to you, happy dying!!

I would stay away from box colors for red (or in general, really). There's such a small price difference between a good color that you'll mix yourself and those box colors that you can buy in the drugstore, it's really worth it to make the step up.
You'll find that because red fades really quickly, you'll need some sort of refresh every 2-3 weeks (more if you're washing your hair daily). I do a simple rinse with mine, when the roots are fine but the color needs refreshing, in which I mix equal parts color and liquid shampoo, then add distilled water and just lather that through everything. It helps to redeposit the color without adding any lightening effects.
For full recolors, I do those every 3-4 weeks, depending on the rate of hair growth (seasonal). I think at 5 weeks you'll be really stretching it, and you'll find that the roots are very visible.
Good choice to go red! You'll never look back.

Thanks for the support! and Heather- my hair is mousy brown to dark blonde, so i'm not worried about color pay off :)
And Angela- do you get the color for the rinse from a salon? or a store?

I did the sams garnier made for dark brown and I bought manic panic true red. I dyed my hair amd waited a few days & then did manic panic. I then would once a week put some of the manic panic in my hair while showering to help maintain the red. Also I used sulfate free shampoo for red heads (bed head) oh and my hair is super dark brown :) good luck

Awesome well happy you think itll work, and do you have a beauty supply around? I use Sally's they have tons of red dyes and developers. If you have a place like that, it would be the best bet for dye. :)
