I have super oily skin and prone to cystic acne usually only around "that time of month" (large, sore, red pimples that never get a head or "pop" and last for like 2 weeks.)
all I do to my face is wash it with a wet washcloth at night and apply proactives repairing cream (I don't use the whole proactive "set")
as far as makeup goes I wear a liquid foundation by E.L.F cosmetics and a powder over that. I try to keep it minimal.
I have to use blotting paper several times a day to soak up extra oil off my face and I can't seem to find anything to get rid of the pimples any sooner then a week after they hit.
any suggestions for either issue??
ps:I've tried toothpaste and liquid advil on the pimples but they don't seem to help.

My skin was really bad in my late teens years and Proactiv helped substantially. I still use the cleanser even though my acne is gone.

The proactive seems to have brought regular pimples under control and I get less of the cystic pimples but I've beeb using it for a couple years and I still get a few pimples a month which is better but still not ideal lol.

Glotherapeutics acne kit is a miracle worker, and chemical peels seemed to help with any scarring I've had. no more elf foundation! I think that may be your down fall.

Try tea tree oil as a spot treatment for cystic acne. It's worked wonders for me. It's anti-bacterial and seriously reduces swelling overnight.

Sadie, it sounds like your problem is more hormonal than anything else. Have you tried birth control?

I'm on marvelon and have been for about 6 years or so it seemed to help with the acne at first but I've heard you are supposed to switch your pills up after several years but I'm afraid of screwing up my period or finding a pill that works as well for everything else.

On Ebay there is a bio chemist that sells the actives for products to help. Very affordable. They even sell the ingredient that is in the uber expensive Le Mer. The seller name is Skin Active. Give their natural products a look.

Also have you thought about a Claire sonic?

You should speak to your gyno or dermatologist. There are so many new birth control pills out in the market now. I have been on b.c., antibiotics & accutane (twice) for cystic acne. Accutane helped a lot though. Have you tried being tested for lack of vitamins?
