Recently I ran across this article on Temptalia I believe or something and there was huge controversy over the fact that UD had been signed off onto a bigger company who tests on animals. A lot girls said they would no longer feel comfortable buying from UD anymore and then a lot of other girls said "it doesn't bother me that the makeup is tested on animals. I look quality."

I know its an old issue, but what's your take on it?

If we never tested on animals from the beginning, we wouldn't be where we are now with cosmetics... I am a makeup artist who is pro animal testing.

Your kidding me right? Whoever is for animal testing has no soul. You're.sick.

Okay we've already tested on animals, so why does that make it okay now, its 2013 so, don't you think we know what we can and cannot use? Wow. I never heard such and ignorant comment before in my life.

I'm in the middle like yeah its sad that they test on animals but at the same time I understand why they do it... no hate people are allowed to have their own opinions and its not like I hate animals because I'm an animal lover.

I agree Samantha, animals are not worth hurting just because the cosmetic industry is shallow, just because they can't speak up and say they don't like what were doing to them doesn't make it right

Tbh if you eat meat youve killed an animal so does that mean your not going to eat meat because you would have to kill an animal (which these animals are kept in cruel conditions unless free farmed)...

Sorry I no it sounds harsh but its kind of the truth. I don't know I don't want to start any arguments its just my view on things.

Tegan you hit the nail on the head with that one. It winds me up when people are like oo no I love animals, testing on them is killing and all that crap- then they'll happily eat a burger or whatever! or wear leather jackets and shoes, an animal's been skinned so we can wear that stuff, you might shop cruelty free make up but animals are still dying for your vanity if you wear leather and such! I've been a vegetarian since I was 5 years old and to be honest I think most 'animal lovers' are just full of shit. The only animal rights fanatics I have any respect for a full vegans who eat/wear absolutely NO animal products. Even when you eat an egg your effectively stealing a chickens unborn baby and eating it- do you get what I mean?
but more to the point, I think research should be put into alternatives but I don't think animal testing is the worse thing in the world, better than doing initial tests on humans or selling a screwed up product. At tge end of the day humans and animals simply don't have the same 'rights', humans have the power, and we breed animals to be eaten and tested on to ensure the successful future of OUR lives, same thing animals do when they hunt their prey in the wild. sorry for the rant lol, this subject gets me going lol

I'm a vegetarian & all that, so animal testing is against my personal set of morals. No more UD for me, I guess.

Its not that I don't care... but ill still buy their stuff. and you can call me shallow or wtv you want. I do love animals, I was veg for 6 years... iknow its sad but there are worse things happening in the world right now.

And whoever that samatha is... seriously calm down. no need to be rude. and I'm pretty sure she doesn't really care what you think... lol anywaysss.

I don't look at who tests in animals, I have ni idea whi does and doesn't so for me I would still buy the products just because I don't know.

To say someone who doesn't use cruelty free products has no soul and sick is rude and uncalled for. Honestly, even though UD tests on animals it's not going to keep me from buying from them. I love animals, but that doesn't keep me from loving salmon or steak either. So I think it would be a little hypocritical of me to say 'I'll do this regarding animals, but I won't do this' in this instance. Would I ever hurt an animal myself? Heck no. But I'm not going to be up in arms, and I'm not, if I company I use decides to so it. I buy what I like honesty. I'll by MAC (not saying they test on animals, no idea) and Urban Decay just as quickly as I'll buy Tarte, which is cruelty free.

I agree with Cassandra! You're so right! I love animals and am a vegetarian but occasionally eat chicken and fish, and wear makeup. Does tht make me full of "shit"?

I need my protein.

When you buy products like that you have to think of think of this: Would I rather want an animal to test this out and make sure it is safe for humans, or would I rather have a human risk themselves.

Apr 30, 2013

Erin M.

I'll be honest, and blunt, in saying I'd rather test on animals then a human. I would rather not have anything be tested on either but as those are the choices we've got I'm picking humans. I value human life more then I do that of an animal. Love 'em regardless, but not more then a human life.

Agree with everything erin said :)

Lara C. Me calm down? You need to calm down. It's a topic open for discussion. I stated my opinion and if you or anybody else doesn't like it, then ignore it. Every time someone posts a topic anybody can say what they want. I've been a mua for 4 years now, and all 4 years I've been cruelty free. I've explained my opinions towards customers and actually converted them into buying cruelty free makeup. It's not hard to look for what's cruelty free and what isn't.

But she's not being aggressive or throwing around potentially hurtful terms. There isn't much, if any, calming down for her to do. It's obvious that this is something you're passionate about though, which is very respectable and great. But it's best to have an opinion on the topic at hand, not the people in it.

If you think about it humans are animals too, also its better to test.on humans because its the persons choice, but I still will buy for people who test or don't test on animals because I don't know who does and doesn't, I feel it doesn't.concern me, also I'm not going to boycott my favorite mascara just because it was tested on a animal. I know its wrong but they will still continue to test on animals, even if I don't.spend my $5 there.

I agree with Erin, I'm all about animals and stuff but I prefer it done on animals then humans.I guess that means I have no soul.

Every cosmetic in existence is available because ingredients were tested on animals at some point. Some safety tests do not have non-animal alternatives. Animals used in testing were bred for that purpose, much like livestock is bred for the slaughter.

Eating eggs is not "stealing a chicken's unborn baby". Anyone whom has raised chickens (or has any knowledge of biology) knows that hens produce eggs constantly, whether there are cocks around or not. Those eggs are abandoned by the hen if not collected by a human. So really, you're not harming anything.

Back to cosmetics: I don't give a flying fig if they test on a lab rat somewhere because that is what the lab rat was bred to do. Much like I won't stop slaughtering livestock or hunting, because that is how humans have subsisted for tens of thousands of years.

Tehe Emily I know the egg thing, I was tryna make a point about about how people are so obsessed with animal testing but don't give a shit what they eat and wear (leather wise) I was eating an egg at the time haha.
oh and juli b, no I didn't that people like you (who eat abit of meat here and there) are full of shit, I mean people who go crazy about testing being killing and stuff but they still eat happily meat if you get me?
making sure you get your protein is a very sensible thing to do lol, I'm all for it. Have you tried quorn stuff? is highly packed full of protein and it tastes amazing =]
