So I went to the store to get a box of black hair dye. My hair is naturally a very light black and I wanted to get my natural color back to match my roots. They didn't have the lighter color black I wanted so I went with the only other one they had. The darker black.. I figured I wouldn't leave it on as long and it wouldn't be so dark. I'm not pleased with how dark my hair is, will the color fade?

Yes darker colours fade a lot quicker than lighter like blonde. For a week wash hair once a day with shampoo only.this will help the color wash out faster. When you are out of the shower, add a conditioning serum or hair oil to avoid brittle hair :)

I would also suggest Color Oops! It's a hair due remover. It's in the hair color aisle at almost any drug store. Color oops works good, because hair dye has color particles that swell to coat the strands, color oops shrinks the particles and allows them to wash out. You shoul definitely try it, it doesn't damage hair and it allows you to color in the same day

And try an anti scalls shampoo, it will make the colour fade away too. I had my own experiences. I wanted redbrown but got a cherry black :/

If you don't want to dye it again or use color oops to strip the color then re dye it, I would suggest using cinnamon. The same thing happened to me and I was so upset but after using the cinnamon two times my hair was a shade lighter. Try it!!

You just mix some cinnamon with conditioner, I threw in a egg yolk too for conditioning. Make sure hair is damp first spread mix on desired areas and tie up. I put a bag on my head cuz it tends to run a little. It's going to tingle a little but leave it on for at least a few hours or overnight and then rinse.

This may not work for everyone but it worked great for me.

Next time don't use box dye... Box dye is almost always a bad idea

I have black hair too, it will wash quicker if you use hot hot water in your showers

Just to give you an idea how hard black box dye is to lift...this is me getting color lifted. The dark ends are where I used to box dye my hair. The rest is from salon colored hair. Don't use black box dye...it's too harsh. If you want to lighten or lift the color I would go to a professional.

FYI it's the last inch or so. I stopped box dying about a year and a half ago.

Shampoo like head and shoulders strips hair colour much quicker than normal shampoos. I think its ones aimed at anti dandruff but when my hair went too dark (nearly black) head and shoulders took loads of the colour out!

Head and shoulders shampoo and conditioner should strip it slightly but tip for the future, your hair usually goes a shade/2shades darker than on the packet so be careful how dark you go once you go black/red in any form of permanent colour it's a nightmare to get out! Try opting for semi permanents, also I'd recommend using the tube colours hair dressers use in Sally's salon services they aren't as harsh/permanent! Be patient with the lifting of your colour and if you want to go lighter quicker try getting highlights all over with a toner put on them so they aren't blonde (they can tone them to whatever colour you wish to go) hope this helps :)

Also black when it fades can look v flat so maybe a dark chocolate brown would look richer ( remember this will be a shade or 2 darker than on the packet as your hair is already dark! Another thing to remember is your regrowth (hair at the roots) that hasn't been dyed by the time you go to dye it again will go the colour of the box in comparison to your black hair which will just get darker with more colour added to it! :)

Use a clarifying shampoo several times a day it will help it fade faster.

I think head and shoulders lightens color as well.
