"ghetto" isnt exactly an appropriate term to use at all. I see tons of people and celebrities in sweats and relaxing clothes all the time, just be laid back if you want to. do and wear what makes you happy, not what's going to "turn guys off" you'll save yourself a lot of time and effort doing what makes you happy, and probably find a guy who likes you for your inner self instead of your skinny jeans as well.

Wearing sweats doesn't make you Ghetto at all. Ghetto is the wrong term to use.

Her question is if she can wear "lazy" clothes to school without looking sloppy, from what I gather. And yes you can! I think it can be pretty cute :)

@angel my dear maybe you dnt realize cuz of your age,but the word Ghetto is offensive to many cultures that word comes Yiddish mean poor jewish neighborhoods. Maybe you should b more concern of history of knowing hw to use words than wht to wear.I would flag you but you being young n nt too educated of the the term Ghetto I will let you slide.Wearing dirty clothes flip flops, slippers, pajamas ,hair nt comb would consider to b a very lazy day n yes many ppl would probably b turned off!

She probably doesn't know what ghetto really means because the word is rarely used offensively these days.

I don't see what ghetto has to do with sweats but I see nothing wrong with wearing something like that to school but you better be careful with using the term ghetto.

Sweats are ok but wearing pj pants half tucked into your slippers with a sweatshirt is kinda discusting in my opinion

No, you should dress to impress yourself not anyone else. And if a guy really likes you then they won't care about a lazy day. Just be comfortable in whatever you feel like putting on.

Where I'm from, the term ghetto is used very loosely. we don't realize it may offend others. she obviously did not mean to offend anyone.

I think this thread unintentionally highlighted a universal need for awareness about the meaning behind the words we use. Though a lot of things have been coopted into popular slang, many words have very offensive histories and are still perceived that way by many. A little consideration, especially in today's globally connected world, goes a long way.

In response to the initial question, yes it looks sloppy and irreverent to wear sweats in public, and pyjamas in public is just plain disrespectful. Pulling on a pair of jeans isn't that difficult and projects a much better image. If skinny jeans are too much effort, wear a looser cut or wear a dress.
