What is freelancing and how do you start it?

Hi Brianna,
Being a freelance makeup artist means that you work for yourself or as a contractor with a specific cosmetics line.
Working for yourself means you have your own makeup kit and build your clientele by using your own networking skills. Jobs can include weddings, photoshoots, editorial, and events. Getting started you would need to master your skillset, build your makeup kit and market your skills. You can also team up with a hairstylist or photographer who is already established and work a few jobs to get your name out there. There are also websites such as modelmayhem.com that connects models, photographers, stylists and makeup artists.
You can also work as a freelance artist for a specific cosmetics line. The line may provide you with their products and brushes but not all the time. Generally you would travel around to different boutiques/malls and do artistry for their events. The hours are limited but generally tend to be very flexible. Jobs like these are generally found on job boards or on the brand's website. You may have to interview and bring a model in to show your skillset.
I hope this answers your questions!
