I'm learning how to apply makeup at 40 (never too late) and I want to invest in a good set of brushes, especially for eyeshadows (blending and such)

It really depends on how much you want to spend. Sigma as amazing brushes but they are a bit pricey. I lately startedbusing ELF brushes, they are good and very inexpensive! Morphe also has some very good brushes but the shipping for me is way to much so I never tried them.

I created my own based on preference from Morphe and ELF. The white WnW are great for concealer and the eye blending brush.

Morphe's 12 pc traveling set would be great for you! It mainly has eyeshadow brushes, but also has a few face brushes.

I started with coastal scents and pretty much stuck with them with an Elf brush here and there.

Real Techniques- love their brushes. Also It Cosmetics has a lot of brushes that aren't too expensive and can be multi tasking. I don't buy sets for two reasons: I find that sets can have inferior quality to the standalone brushes in the line. Secondly, there might be (and usually are) brushes in the set that I'll never use.
