So I got a beauty blender a couple of months ago and, despite proper care, there is some mold growing on the bottom. Would it be okay if I just cut the mold off and kept using the non-moldy top?

The bulk of the bacteria is most likely in the sponge interior...deep in the center, where air doesn't hit it. Cutting it off, because it's porous, isn't going to help. Bacteria on a face is a recipe for eye infections, acne...it's just unhealthy.
If you're worried about cost, Eco Tools has a dual set of sponges that is very nice and only $10 at Ulta. With their $3.50 website coupon, you'd be getting 2 sponges for very little cash to hold you over.
If not, I'd just get a new one.

Thank you Rozberry! Do you prefer the Eco Tools sponge over the Real Techniques one?

I really do, Bridgette. It has more bounce and softness than the Real Techniques so it feels closest I've tried to the Beauty Blender. It's not exact, but it's a nice option which leaves, in my view, a lovely finish. All EcoTools is on sale at Ulta right now, buy 1, get one 50% off, so if you had your eye on a few Ecotool brushes or something else, or you wanted to double up on the EcoTools to have backup, now's a good time. They also sell them in singular packs for $5.99, but don't forget that $3.50 coupon on their site, which makes that practically free...lol
I'll link you to both so you can see them and read reviews.

Regarding the mold; I use mine about sooo many months with no discoloration or issues and it's usually not because you aren't cleaning it properly, but because it maybe didn't get enough air or rolled onto a surface with bacteria after washing. A tip that may help in the future is, if you aren't already doing so, to place it somewhere where the sponge is getting lots of air. I went to the dollar store (Dollar Tree) and got a heart shaped candle votive...little glass dish..for $1 and it fits a sponge perfectly, exposing it to air. If I wash it in the morning, in the evening, I just turn it over in the dish and it's great. The little dish also keeps it from rolling off the darn desk...lol
I'll link you to what I keep my sponge in. Dollar Tree has a cute star one too, but any Dollar Store should have something like that to help keep things aired out as they are very shallow and allow the sponge to be out in the open without rolling around as they dry. I gift a little one now when I give a friend a Beauty Sponge because it's so easy and sanitary, plus it's cute!
Hope that helps. :)

I tend to just let my sponges sit in the open air on a small dish after usage, then give it a good wash just before the next time I bust it out. Haven't had any issues so far.
