So after I broke my brain for upwards of 3 months trying to come up with a name for my business and what it represented- I finally did it! Now that the hardest part is out of the way... it still feels pretty nerve wrecking:

Starting your own business is scary! Although it is something I am passionate about I am still nervous beyond my imagination.

For about a year now I have practiced on faces other than my own; and if we will get serious for a second- I have played with makeup my whole life but only found true love for it about a little over 2 years ago. I think I am starting off at a very mature age (but I'm not as young as some of you talented artists).

I am certified makeup artist yet I am STILL nervous. What do I do to get over these nerves!? I have a fear of letting someone else down with high expectations. Not saying I don't feel that I am not talented at all, I just don't want to ruin someones big day because they think I could have done a better job! *sigh*. I feel overwhelmed sometimes. I think too much...

Maybe some of you can help with suggestions or just discussing some things that can help me get over my crazy brain.

What did you name the company? And do you meditate? Meditating helps calm my nerves.

I have not tried meditating. My mind is like a never ending wheel! I should totally try that.

Because you mentioned the fear of letting someone down, I would highly recommend getting insurance. I know it's not make up, but it is so important. If you promise something and are not able to make a client happy they could sue you. So making sure you have the proper general liability insurance will help. Of course that's assuming you haven't already done so  :)

Have a contract that covers EVERYTHING. If all expectations are in writing, there's less chance of someone trying to sue you. Have you taken any business courses/do you have a business background? Understanding business licensing, finances, intellectual property, incorporation, and regulations is necessary to run a successful (and legal) business. Insurance is a must, both for liability and property.

Setting the foundation of your business will help ease your fears. Picking a name was a good start; now comes the nitty gritty in setting up the rest of the business before the fun part of actually doing makeup.
