Hi,
Last night I used a revlon frost and glow (I think that's the name) kit on my hair and did some really nice hair painting. I love how it turned out except the color. I expected it to turn orangey, so I had a toner ready that an employee at Sally's chose for me. I used the Wella t-18 (I think) toner mixed with a 10 volume developer per her recommendation. I put the toner on for about 20 minutes and it really didn't do anything. Did I just strip my hair too much? I don't hate the color, but I would like to tone it if possible. Any advice? If it helps, I had medium brown hair that was fading back to blonde. I got it dyed brown at a salon about 9 months ago. I do not heat style my hair and haven't for about five years.

I use the Wella toner in light ash blonde and it always works wonders for me...but I think that's the t18? If not maybe try the light ash blonde.

Thank you both! So to bleach my hair lighter- Amy suggestions? I could always get the lighter revlon kit but I think that the stuff from Sally's may work better.. Any advice on that? And since I just bleached in yesterday how long should I wait before bleaching again? Thanks!!

Wait at least a week to bleach it again, and I think the bleach from sally's is better. I recommend quick blue and vol 20 peroxide. Also you can get Ion absolutely perfection booster step 1 and step 2 to prevent damaging your hair with the bleaching process.

I use T18, but the ladies there always recommend vol 20. They told me 10 isn't a strong enough developer.

If the toner didn't work, you hair is not bleached enough and your blonde is darker than the toner. Toner will only work on hair that is processed to the "banana" blonde shade.

The wella bleach is the best. You can't beat it. If you can get yours hands on olaplex (eBay since it's sold by professionals only) or if you know someone with a license its REALLY worth it. You mix it in on steps and it will literally save your hair. Especially with double processing.

T18 is too light of a color to do anything.
The way toners work is that they have to be around the same depth or darker to sort of stain your hair which ends up toning the brassy tones.
The developer is irrelevant when the color itself is too light.
It's not like a permanent hair color, using a stronger developer won't make the toner work any better.
It's like a tan person trying to use a self tanner meant for very fair skin. You can leave it on all you want but it's not really going to do anything.
You could try T-14 which I believe is more of a blue shade and can tone the orange hue.
OR buy a silver shampoo (has more of a blue color) which will tone the orange or just bleach your hair some more

I like the color you have now, but if you want it lighter, you need to bleach and tone it again. The Ion Absolute perfection booster, it's a dupe for olaplex, is way cheaper. I have used it and it works wonders.

I don't necessarily want it lighter- just less orangey. Is that possible? And thanks!! I'll look into that.

If you like the depth then just pick up a silver shampoo.
If you want to tone your hair the T-14 will definitely work better since it has a blue tone to it so it'll help tone down the orange hue too
