Hi everyone, so recently I've been trying to get more into contouring, and I'm having the issue of my contour looking AWFUL in natural light!! It's SUPER obvious and looks incredibly orangey... In the light of my house it's super blended out and if I blended it anymore it would be gone, basically! I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm not familiar with the product you're using. Is it made for contouring? Are you applying the contour under or on top of your foundation? (if you are using foundation)

It's advertised that they can be used to contour, but that's not what they are specifically made for. It's a drug store product, but I've watched plenty of girls contour with them on YouTube and they've been suggested to me for it before!! And I am applying it on top of my foundation

Theyre like concealer sticks basically. I actually used something like that for contouring and it looks orange and muddy on me too. I really don't know ehat it is, I just use powders.

I highly recommend using a different contour stick only because the results you are getting with this one in the lighting doesn't sound to pleasant. There is many other contour sticks at the drug store that are specifically meant for what you are trying to succeed at. And that is to have a good Contour with out problems in the lighting. I recommend Clinique chubby Contour sticks they work perfectly and are easy to use for beginners when it comes to contouring!! Much love 💕

Clinique chubby sticks are fab!
What you want is something grey toned (or cooler toned!). Contour mimics a shadow. You could try using a different products specifically marketed for contour (however make sure that it's not a repackaged bronzer!) and products specific for your skin tone. Many (not all!) cheaper contour kits are orangey toned (and some more expensive ones are because they're basically repackaged bronzers). A contour kit I love (and have repurchased a few times!) is the Sleek contour kit in light. It's a powder so very very easy to control and you can start off light and work up to it. I personally think powders are easier to work with for contour as they're more buildable than a cream. I also the Look Good Feel Better angled contour brush and it's the best contour brush I've ever used

The NYX blush in the color Taupe is the perfect contour shade and it's affordable. I use it on myself when I want a quick, daytime contour.

If its orange or muddy try to go warmer, sounds like you're using a warm color.

If you apply your foundation with a sponge or a brush, lightly dab back over your contour to try and blend the harsh lines, also try cooler toned contour colors like the hola bronzer!

Invest on Marc Jacobs Instamarc in "Mirage Filter" or get Lunatick Cosmetics Labs Contour Palette. I had the same issue being pale but these two products are amazing. I honestly prefer Marc Jacobs because the quality is better, the powder is cool toned and pigmented, it creates a very beautiful, natural shade on your face. If you prefer cream products, go for Burberry's Contour Stick 😘

I really like the nyx wonderstick for affordable cream contouring. Blend it out with a beauty blender or other cosmetic sponge. Also, is there any way you could use more natural light when you put your makeup on? I'm lucky enough to have a window right near my bathroom mirror that gets tons of natural light so I always open the blinds and use and use as much natural light as possible.

I think I'll try the NYX wonder stick!! I'm always super impressed with their products! And I open up both of the windows in my bedroom but I guess it's just not enough!

Another reason why it might be turning orange is that it oxidized. I typically have that problem with cover girl. I agree with everyone on trying other products.
