I've dried the UD de slick setting spray, it's pretty good for keeping your makeup in place. I'm really interested in the Smashbox oil primer because I have flakiness too so maybe I'll try that.

As a dry gal myself, I'd urge you to return the Urban Decay. The 2nd ingredient is SD Alcohol/ Denatured Alcohol. This is a an extremely drying alcohol rather than a fatty alcohol; it actively worsens dry skin. You'd be doing damage to your dry skin with every single use. SD Alcohol increases vulnerability to free radicals and inhibits skin's ability to heal itself, which means even if you had oily skin, it would not be beneficial in skin products.
Often the damage we do to our skin is quiet and slow. It isn't until down the line we see the harm certain ingredients or behaviors have done. If you use anything hydrating or anti-aging, this is counterintuitive to your efforts and to your wallet. Considering it is listed as the 2nd ingredient, the percentage is rather alarming. (The Slick Formula also has denatured alcohol as a main ingredient.) There's much better products out there that will not actively age and dry out your skin.
For more info on SD Alcohol, this is a great read. (it scrolls through the bottom of the page)

I'd like to note, I know many members use and love variations of this formula. *Perhaps*, if they knew the possible, long-term (let alone immediate) damage they were doing to the delicate skin layers of their complexion, they would not continue the spray or wash, wipes etc. that contain this common ingredient. But, of course, they may enjoy it and use it regardless...and I respect that choice; I just wanted you and the board to know so you could make an informed decision. Hope that helps.

Psst...Upon Marleen's jubilant review of the product, I purchased the Smashbox Oil If you are sensitive like me, I'd be sure to test patch. I loved it and feel it is a fabulous blend of beneficial facial oils. The main ingredient is Sweet Almond Oil, so I'm not surprised I enjoyed it; Sweet Almond is a huge part of my skin care. Many of the oils I'm already using separately so the blend had some fab choices for me, personally. Tarte's oil is a blend of passion fruit seed oil and vitamin E, so you obviously have a skin sensitivity to one or both of those oils; the Smashbox contains neither of those BUT it does contain Linoleic Acid. The oil ratio/blend of the Tarte may have not worked with your skin. Here's an article to better understanding oils and their blending/acid ratio with regard to skin that may give you a general idea of how the acids and our skin works. Our mod, Kitty, would certainly be someone I'd hit up to see if she had a recommendation for a facial oil. I know she'd be glad to help as she's a true doll.

Using very little product resulted in plump, glowing skin with no flaking. I rarely powder, but I did use a tiny bit on the tip of my nose. I traveled several hours on a plane, which dries me out, and found it kept me soft and dewy. I use light to buildable medium coverage with CC cream or foundation and wear held up like a dream.. long into the night. The trick is to use a very very light hand since so little product us needed .and avoid your mascara and liner, naturally...plus patience. I let it sink in a good five minutes prior to beginning my make-up. I did pat this in my upper and lower orbital area; I wore shadow only on my lid with winged liner, so it did not make contact with the oil primer at any time. I used Too Faced Shadow insurance on the lid itself. Really lovely. I hope it works out for you and you enjoy it.
Marleen, I left a note on your profile. Thanks, again.

I was debating about the UD setting spray because I do have dry skin and they have one that is a spray for hydrating and cooling but then it won't set the makeup but I'll try it and see what it is about but I might return but thanks again but who's Marleen lol?

I edited my response, since I saw Tarte broke you out. Maybe the info I added will be of use to you.
lol Sorry about that! Marleen is another member here with dry skin and she's incredibly kind and helpful..often recommending great products.
Even UD's "Dry skin" formula is a nightmare, with Denatured Alcohol as the 2nd/main ingedient. It makes no sense to use a hydrating primer and then undo all of your benefits with their formulas. Even if it didn't dry me out, I don't use it use it simply because I am all about anti-aging and invest good money in hydrating, anti-aging skin products. I'd just be ruining my own skin with these formulas and hindering my skin's natural ability to repair while reducing my protection from free radical damage with daily use. That aside, all of their formulas can increase flaking in those of us who run dry. I'm severely dry and still remain flake-free because I thoroughly inspect ingredients to research what my skin is most responsive to. Everyone's skin is different, but SD alcohol is not beneficial for any skin type with regular use; I'd look into facial sprays that do not contain SD alcohol.

What would be a good setting spray you would recommend that will keep makeup in place?

My main concern is always keeping the skin hydrated...because then, the make-up doesn't break up into patches or flake off; that itself extends my wear. I hope that makes sense...lol When you find a CC cream or foundation that pairs well with your skin, that's also going to make cosmetic wear better as a whole.
There are many products that WILL extend wear and keep make up in place, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I want to personally use them on a daily basis. Kat's Lock it is great for holding make-up in place, but I won't use it daily myself because it's so high in alcohol. It would be fine for occasional use..that special event now and again, (any of the alcohol ones are), but even then, I cringe, so I'm on the hunt myself. I assume you are seeking something to use daily. Since you are so dry and flaking and taking into account the skin health-side effects, daily use would concern me. I couldn't in good conscience recommend a setting spray at the moment as I'm still researching them myself.
I CAN say with the utmost confidence that the best thing for getting maximum wear on my own products is being sure to have a seriously moisturized base. If I don't have that, nothing is going to wear well.
MAC prep and prime is a great way to add hydration and a dewy finish (especially if you use are using a drying, long-wear, matte foundation formula, but don't want to look powdery)...but it is **not a setting spray**. (MAC is a tad misleading with it's "fix" wording) It's essentially a spritzing toner, but an excellent one that's alcohol free. It contains a bit of fragrance, but it is minimal. I currently don't "set" my face with a spray. I don't use full coverage and rarely ever use powder so a touch up 8 hours down the line is no biggie for me. I'm more concerned about keeping my sunscreen extended than anything. ;)
But you bring up a dilemma that many dry members most likely face! Certainly in summer, who doesn't want to keep our make up in place? It would be terrific to set it and focus on other matters!
I'd suggest you ask our lovely poster Ms. Jacqueline when it comes to actual setting sprays.

She is a Pro MUA and has extensive knowledge with setting sprays and skin types. I'd actually be interested in her suggestions as well! Thanks for creating this thread to open that dialogue. :)

I use to have the UD makeup setting spray and I loved it! Even though I still felt like my makeup was sliding off of my face it didn't when I use the setting spray!
