I have rosacea and sometimes it makes me very sad because I just wanna go outside without make up..:/
Soo well I've tried a lot of things but nothing really helps. It all started 2014 since I go to university. Any ideas to reduce the redness?

Have you gone to your dermatologist?
Mar 10, 2016
Alina E.
Yes of course :) I've been there but she coul not really help me. She gave me rosiced and soolantra. But well nothing really reduces the redness.

Hmmm, then I would make an appointment again with your dermatologist if they are still no help then try to find a different dermatologist.

I'm not familiar with rosacea at all, so excuse me if I'm way off , but since it started when you went to university, could it maybe be stress related? when I did my bachelor's I got rashes on my fingers and all over my body and nothing would really help apart from not being stressed. :(

Excellent point, Deborah.
Alina, Eucerin makes a gentle line devoted to Rosacea called "Redness Relief".

I have rosacea too and it's a pain. I'm on Soolantra as well and I've seen some results, but nothing real noticeable yet. How long have you been on it? Sometimes it takes awhile for it to make a difference you're happy with. With rosacea, there are different triggers that can cause flare ups. Certain foods (dairy and spicy foods) cause them for me as well as stress and hot weather. Personally, I I don't want to cut certain foods out of my diet, but I've limited my intake. To manage the stress, I find exercise to be helpful. If you're unaware of your triggers, you can always look online and see what matches your symptoms. For skincare and makeup, I avoid all products containing fragrance. My favorite skincare brand is Avene, which was created for sensitive skin. It can be a bit pricy, but I'd recommend investing in a cleanser. If all else fails, try searching for a dermatologist that specializes in rosacea.

Thank you Michelle for your answer :)
Well I use it since a few months but it does not reduce my redness.. At the moment I use dado sens products. The are really nice and my skin feels smooth and sometimes it helps me to reduce my redness. You should try but it's pricy..
I have no idea which food except spicy and hot food is a trigger for me.

You're welcome :)
It does take a bit of trial and error in finding what works. My dermatologist told me that there is a laser procedure that can be done to reduce redness, but I haven't looked into it because I'm pretty sure insurance won't cover it. But, I will be looking into the products you're using.

The laser is only for couperose? Or am I wrong? I was at the dermatologist in a hospital to examine my skin. And they told me laser won't work for me.. So well.. I want it to go away!
I hate it. Especially in the summer I want to go outside without make up because I feel stupid to swim with make up on -.-

For more redness relief I love the Avene redness relief cream. It looks like this. I use it in the morning mixed with the eucerin stuff and it really diminishes the redness. It's a light minty color and soaks in fast. It's not incredibly moisturizing so I mix it with the eucerin stuff but if you just have dry or normal skin as opposed to really dry skin it might be enough for you. They also make one for oily skin I believe. They have a whole line of stuff for redness relief as well.
Again, I don't have diagnosed rosacea but I do have skin that if I accidentally touch it it gets super red like I've been picking at it all day and I've learnt some rosacea tips from trying to calm my own skin. But when it's really sensitive oatmeal masks and green tea rinses really help calm it down. I like to use the oatmeal masks almost every day sometimes in the summer. Another thing to keep in mind is if it's heat or cold sensitive. I remember reading about how a cold cloth or a hot cloth can help, but sometimes one will make it worse. For me heat makes it worse but cold calms it so I will store my moisturizer in the fridge and stick the oatmeal mask in the fridge for 20 minutes before using it as well.
I've noticed a big difference since using these products, enough that I feel comfortable without makeup, though if I am very red I'll just put on the elf green primer and conceal the very red areas. But I don't need that as much anymore.

Wow thank you for that much of information :)
I have a sample from that avene antirougeurs calm mask and think it is really nice. What I don't understand is how can a oatmeal mask help? And have you a recept for your oatmeal mask?:)
I think I will try out those both masks. How does the seaweed line works for you? Does it help? My face is very very sensitive for temperature.. Right now my face feels so damn hot and look really reslly red.. I have no idea what to do

The oatmeal mask is just ground up oats (you can buy them for super cheap at any grocery store and blend them in a blender) and mixed with water/milk. I usually mix a 1/2 cup of oats with a 1/2 cup of steeped green tea for extra soothing properties but I really just eyeball it to get a creamy not to thick or runny consistency. Oatmeal is a well known calming agent, its why aveeno has oats in their products, because it soothes the skin and helps with inflammation, redness, environmental damages and gently exfoliates without irritating.
Seaweed is also a very calming ingredient much like oatmeal, and the body shop line is the only product I've found with it lol. It's a great product but I really only use the cleanser and the spf moisturizer but it is all around a very good gentle calming line. Until I found eucerin and avene all I would use is the seaweed line, it was great but it's meant for combination skin and wasn't moisturizing enough for me. You could also get some seaweed sheets (the edible kind from organic stores works well as long as it's not flavored) but it's kinda pricey at least here. But you can make a sheet mask out of that as well. I found it was too pricey when I got the same results from oats, but your skin could love it.
If your skin is heat sensitive then make sure when you wash it to use cool water. I know it's hard to get used to but it'll help in the long run. You can also get those gel bead masks from the drugstore that you can pop in the freezer and use to keep your face cool. I have a couple of them and they are really great. They don't get that cold so it's not risking any damage to your skin cells but it's still a big relief on the skin.

First the gel bead mask is sadly a bad idea because too cold is bad too. -.- I tried always to cool down my face with ice cubes but it got more worse so I have no idea how to cool down my face wirhout using cool stuff.. Crazy.
The oatmeal mask is the next thing I will try out tomorrow!
If I get the same results by seewead well then I can use oatmeal 'cause as you said it's cheaper with the same effect.
Some seaweed sheets sounds great.. I will try that out and see what happens. If that help to reduce my redness than fuck off and I will buy them at once :D
What are you doing when you get a "flush"? :)
Mar 10, 2016
Alyx T.
That's the best thing about the gel bead mask, it doesn't get as cold as ice or anything, the gel never freezes it just gets cool and is a nice refresher if the heat bugs you. I really only use it in the summers since the winter is brutal in Canada lol.
I hope the oatmeal or seaweed helps you! I really couldn't live without the oats, I use them in my baths, I use them on my face like I'm about to put one on before I go for a shower lol. The seaweed is nice but it's definitely a feeling you have to get used to lol. Here's a really good article about using seaweed sheets as a mask :) http://www.xovain.com/skin/diy-seaweed-mask-with-dried-sushi-nori
Since I don't actually have rosacea I don't get flushes, but I'm on medication that gives me hot flashes (super fun lol) so it's very similar and when I get those I get super red. But all I do is try to cool my body down, usually by running my wrists under cold water or putting and ice pack on the back of my neck, and drinking some water. The more you stress out about it the worse it'll get. So I try and distract myself and calm my body and usually my face starts to calm down with it. Then I'll put the avene moisturizer on it to help counteract the redness. I carry it with me all the time lol.

Haha sounds very good so I will see if it helps and I will tell you then :) so the gel mask.. I an unsure but I think a try would not kill me ;D
Seewead smells not as well right? So I'll give it both a try.
Yesterday I put an ice pack in my neck too, sonetimes it helps sonetimes my body feels cold but my face is hot as well..
Thank you for the lot of information!

No problem! Hope it helps! Seaweed smells like sea salt, it doesn't smell bad to me at all but I do believe it's quite strong.
Yeah the ice pack or even just cold water on your wrist or spine cools down your whole body the quickest. You could also try a humidifier to keep the air moist, it'll keep your skin cooler as well

That's a great thing!
But in summer it's difficult to carry a cold water bottle because of the hot weather -.-
So well.. I just wanna go out with no fondation on and look good :D
Rosacea is unusual for my age (22). Most people get it at 30

You could make an oatmeal paste to calm your skin at home using raw oats and a soothing facial oil, such as Evening Primrose or Jojoba...mix it into a paste and let it rest on the skin. (Always test patch anything new, even natural formulas)
Green Tea rinses are also another way to calm that skin down and reduce inflammation without any irritation. Bonus is that it kills surface bacteria naturally.
I always recommend drinking Green Tea, but I've found that alternating my Green Tea with Chamomile has made quite a difference. I also use this tea to splash on skin. Both are soothing and help your body from the inside out. I've amped up my Green Tea to only include leaves from Japan, as those possess greater benefit. I don't know if you have Teavana, but they use Japanese leaves. Most manufacturers will share their source on their website.
You also want to seek out products that have Allatoin in them. This actively calms your skin. You really need to watch those triggers, such as denatured alcohol, witch hazel, menthol and scented products. I can't say enough about how great the Eurcerin Redness Relief is. I hope you have access to it. I completely forgot about the Clinique line. Your foundation should also be part of addressing your skin redness and I think Clinique is available out of the U.S.
Here's a link with some feedback on their redness line, including some users that have Rosacea.
http://www.clinique.com/product/1689/13188/Skin-Care/Redness/Redness-Solutions-MakeupBroad-Spectrum-SPF-15With-Probiotic-Technology
On a sidenote, sunscreen is a big part of keeping redness at bay. I would be sure to use a physical sunscreen that is without fragrance, every single day.
Alyx has provided some great advice. Take care.
