Okay, so I took the advice of a few Beautylishers on here and am very happy with the results. I now use the Body Merry Super 6 serum that has lots of good stuff like vitamin c, retinol, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide(sp?) and some other things. My skin already looks amazing less than 2 months in. THANK YOU KAILEY FOR THE RECOMMENDATION!!
Another beautylisher, ROZBERRY, recommended I use chemical exfoliation. I do not recall who told me about the Pixi Glow Tonic and can't find much information searching on here. I know it has been mentioned and talked about. I finally picked up some from my local Target.
My main question is if that is a good start to chemical exfoliation? Should I also use something else? Will I need more than that eventually? Thanks in advance : )

I'd like to add I haven't noticed much need for exfoliating recently. I wonder if the retinol helps with that? I would be replacing my witch hazel toner for the Pixi glow tonic.

I am also considering getting an AHA. After much research I think that will be the best between AHA and BHA's. Are there other options that I should also consider?

I have very oily skin usually. I also started to breakout a lot. I switched from witch hazel to the pixi glow tonic and I love it. I feel it's a little gentler- sometimes the harshness of the witch hazel can actually cause more breakouts. My dermatologist prescribed me retinal, I've done lots of research and it has amazing benefits. I've only been using it for a month but I definitely think it's helped. Please note that in the. First 12 weeks retinal can break you out. This is it clearly out the old pimples from your skin. I have not rly experienced that, but I have experienced a lot of dryness, which is also common. It's winter here so I don't know if it's both the weather and the retinal, but I just upped my exfoliating to combat the dryness- much easier than pimples. Anyway back to the tonic- my face always feels clean after I use it and it has a light, pleasant smell. Def recommend it. From talking to my dermatologist, she actually taught me that sometimes less is more. You shld always exfoliate, moisturizer, etc. but sometimes when you do too much it can create more problems with your skin. I was doing a ton of things a day trying to fix my face, but it actually made it worse. Once I lightened up, so did my problems- just a side note! Hope that helps:)

I personally don't view Retinol as exfoliant, but instead as an activator...a stimulator that's always working it's magic below the surface. If It exfoliated on its own, I wouldn't be using an AHA. In my opinion, the AHA addresses the skin's surface. This isn't to say AHA's at certain percentages or pH levels cannot also penetrate to act deeper..stimulate cells the way Retinol does. They can and do. It gets complicated and there's much I'll be the first to admit I still don't know so I trust my Derm with some things.
I used to use aloe based Witch Hazel toners, and still often recommend them, but for super sensitive or dry skin, I didn't consider just how effective reducing or removing witch hazel can be. So, I started using a witch hazel and alcohol free toner and that pairs well with my skin.
I see witch hazel as the 2nd ingredient on your Pixi and so if you aren't severely dry or highly sensitive, this may not be an issue for you. The Glycolic Acid in the Pixi toner is what's bringing that glow because it's staying on the skin; not being washed away. Toner is an effective and simple way to bring AHA into your routine. But what's the pH? The pH is what will determine if it is effective. It's 5% Glycolic Acid. This means it could pair well with an AHA lotion if you wanted to bump up your AHA game.
I'd see if you can find the pH on the site or get some test strips and test it youself. Ideally, you want 3-4. I've read some bloggers that have tested it at 5, but even then...this still may be something you love and enjoy using. Maybe your skin will love it too! I can't handle the scent on my skin because it is so heavily scented, but if that's not irritating your skin, I say go for it. Irritation hinders skin's ability to heal and actually ages skin by making it vulnerable to free radical damage.
Just watch for flaking. Like anything, test patch it and ease into it. You may find its a nice fit and if so, you can add an AHA lotion to your regimen. I can't use C and AHA on the skin at the same time, layered. I have to alternate to avoid irritation. This is not a high level of AHA and I don't know what percent of C you are using, but it may not be problematic for you. Just go slow and if skin gets flakey or dry..pull back on usage a bit.
So yes, I'd bring another AHA into the fold, but not until skin was acclimated a bit. Let's be sure this formulation does not irritate before you add another AHA. If you do decide to add another, the Alpha Hydrox Souffle at 12% is currently my favorite. Anything higher than that, I just spend the cash on a peel. I get amazing, instant results that last. I'd rather, personally, invest my money that way...using the souffle and Retin A for maintenance. Everyone's different.
Sorry for being so wordy. :/
Keep up with a broad spectrum sunscreen and please, let us know how you like it. :)

I just want to clarify that Retinol can exfoliate, but that's not how I chose to view it in my own skincare routine, if that makes sense...lol

Awesome. Great information. I will start seriously looking into an AHA to use. My skincare regimen will be complete!! Eek! So far no irritation with the Pixi Glow whatsoever.

I'm super excited to take care of my skin. We already have good genes (aside from crows feet on dads side) in family. I'm hoping to be that gorgeous old lady that looks young and has amazing long grey hair. ; )

Danielle, I love your enthusiasm! The forum is wonderful in that we all can learn so much from each other. Update us on if you see a change in your skin. I hope you enjoy it! I peeked at the Super Serum and I'm glad its working for you. What a great way to bring Retinol into a routine paired with C. Thanks for sharing your experience.
