Tomorrow I'm going to attempt a coconut oil hair mask! I have a basic understanding of how it's done but any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I warm mine up in a bowl over boiling water in a pot, microwaving could cut some of the benefits, then I scoop it with my hands and apply it to the middle and ends of my hair, wrap my hair up, put on a shower cap and wait for as long as I can, usually a few hours and then I wash it out with my regular shampoo and conditioner. It's amazing, I promise you'll love it. Some people I've heard go as far as applying it with an actual dye brush for less messy application. I mix sandalwood oil and one drop of tea tree oil in mine for a little extra boost. Sandalwood oil is even better but pretty expensive.

Thanks, Shanae, I knew you'd answer! Is it really drippy/runny? I don't think I have any shower caps so I don't want it to drip and get coconut oil all over the house.

No, it's not, I'm sure you'll be fine just tying it up. If there is any extra, it'll just sink into the rest of your hair, which is awesome.

Thanks, Cocoa, but I think I'll just stick with the coconut oil (:

It has so many benefits, it's unbelievable, it's great for dry and damaged hair and it also leaves an amazing earthly smell afterwards, I've only use it for my hair, but you could Google other ways to use it, also, I recommend not adding an egg to every mask you do because the protein from the egg will give your hair an unbalanced ph, which isn't good. You could also try just a plain aloe vera mask, it leaves me feeling like my hair has never been dry before haha, it's great too.

Whenever I do it the coconut oil isn't completely solid so I can scoop some out with my fingers or a spoon & then I just warm it up in my hands then put it in my hair. I don't have a shower cap either so I tie a plastic bag on my head instead. works just as well :)

Shanae, the thought of putting an egg in my hair just freaks me out a little, I don't know why, lol.

Thanks, Kat! I'll try using a plastic bag (:

Haha it's not as bad as you'd think, just don't use hot water when rinsing it out or it could possibly cook in your hair. Not a joke either lol.

That sounds absolutely horrible and now I'm really not going to try that, I'd be too paranoid the entire time :P.

I was thinking of doing the egg with the coconut oil but all I do is take hot showers so I'll just do coconut oil lol.

Haha, using avocado as a mask is one that weirds me out a bit, I don't think I'll ever try that one.

Les, exactly! I need a hot shower!

Shanae, you can do an avocado mask? I'd totally do that!

The avocado mask sounds super interesting
I have like thousands of avocados lol

The ladies have it down. Just be careful if you live in a colder climate. Coconut oil gets solid while cold, so it can clog pipes. I only use coconut oil in the summer so I can rinse it outside, otherwise I use argon or olive oil.

Alyx, is there a certain technique to using olive oil or would it be the same as using coconut oil?

It'd be the same without having to heat it :) just apply as much as needed, and put a bag over your head lol.

Keeping coconut oil in your hair overnight has been the best for me and leaves my hair feeling soft, shiny and bouncy! Massage it gently in the hair before you sleep and keep it away from face and wake up in the morning and wash it out! You'll get the best results

Thank you, Alyx! (:
