Waves without the heat.

Good morning! I was wondering if there is a special technique for achieving waves rather than curls. My hair is just at my shoulders but I am getting sick of the diffuse curly look on me. I rather not use heat because that led to the haircut in the first place. I know most people use a curling iron to achieve this look but is there a way to get it without. I've heard blotting with paper towels might work? I have tried the braid method but it just comes out looking like clumps rather than waves. If I let it air dry it semi gets the look but is crunchy even without product. Is there a drying process? A special way to diffuse?

Any suggestions? :)

Try braiding your hair after you shower and then take them out in the morning and style it. Or you can do pin curls instead of braiding it.

I've tried doing that but they just come out in clumps in the morning? Not sure why though.

Large French braids would definitely work. Make sure your hair is somewhat damp and dry by the time you take them out. Also make them sorta tight when braiding.

I have haha. Is there any special aftermath to it? I normally shake them out but they look so limp and crappy and clumpy. Not really sure what is going wrong in the process.

Thank you guys! :)

What I do is part my hair in two, twist each side and then pin it to the oposite side of my head but on the top, so you can sleep on it. If you want I can do a pictorial in like an hour or so.

Does anyone know if I try it now what the best method of drying would be? I have to go out and wanted to try it before I left. Thanks for everything!!

The spray gel is the only thing that helped me

Yeah I might have to try that. I have the not your mothers sea salt spray but it leaves my hair frizzy.

Just yesterday my sister and I tried the headband method. pinterest can explain it way better than I can. But her waves turned out great! lol.

Julie - The garnier one left my hair so crunchy but maybe I'll give it another shot! Still have a full bottle.

Stephanie - Really? I have tried the headband and my hair got stuck. Maybe it has to do with length of hair?

Thanks for the input!

I tried the braiding technique last night and woke up to a mess. It was so clumpy in spots and not waved in others. Maybe my hair just can't handle it?

Wash your hair, let it air dry 75%, apply mousse, split your hair into two sections down the middle, twist hair away from your face, while twisting, make a bun with the twist, tie it off, do it again on the other side. You'll look like princess layah (I don't know how to spell it) but it's worth it. It's a tad uncomfortable to sleep but it works so keep it in until 5 or more hours have gone by, take the buns down, run your fingers through the twists and you're left with gorgeous waves. This will work 1352467% guaranteed, I do it at least once a week.

I use a G3 Salon Pro hair styling iron but on their website there is an advice section and I found this

I hope it gives you some ideas.
