Hair Styles For Short Hair??

So last Saturday I cut off about 4-5 inches of hair off, and its about just about my shoulder now. I do love my new hair, but I'm running into the problem of hair styles, specifically for prom (in about a week and a half).
I am REALLY bad with hair, I can't even curl it normally! the pic I included is over night curls (using a head band) but I can't do this for prom because I am going swimming the morning of prom.

so if anyone has any super simple hair styles/tutorials (preferably updos?) for this length hair, that would help me so much, thanks!!

Waterfall braids look cute with short hair! Braids like Laura posted look cute as well. Soft waves would look very nice.

Oh yeah, I probably should have mentioned, I can't do anything more than a basic braid! I love the idea of a waterfall braid, but I am pretty sure I'd never be able to make it happen.

I cut my hair last summer a little bit shorter than yours and couldn't do a braid at all.. so I doubt braids would work.
I would usually get out the shower and scrunch my hair with mousse or leave it down straight
