I've never gotten one so I don't know how much it costs or how bad it hurts but I'm assuming it's going to be pretty painful considering there's a bone right there

Around the ear is usually a bit painful because of cartilege and bone, but don't let this discourage you from getting it.
also the price varies upon the place and artist.

Pain-wise, as it's on a bone with no fat, it's going to be painful.
Price would vary for your area.

Pain tolerance and price will vary, my friend has one back there and said it didn't really hurt that much, the sound was more irritating. Then price most shops have like a shop minimum on tattoos I've found that it's usually around $50. I got a tattoo no bigger than my thumb and it was originally $50 but since it was my birthday he charged $40 lol.

It's different for everyone, but I got a tattoo on my head in a close spot to what you were wanting, and the pain wasn't too bad at first. However it was hard to see it and keep it clean so it got infected. Be careful, and read up on how to take care of the tattoos and what care products to use. Read http://www.webMD.com, http://aquaphorfortattoos.com, and various tattoo forums for advice. A good tattoo artist will also have all the info, and most will be happy to speak to you about pain and care even before you get it.
