What about online schooling...anyone?

So, I've been thinking long and hard on what I want to make out of my life career wise...& beauty never seems to leave the back of my mind.

So, the nearest school is 2 hours away which isn't bad if I stay committed..but I don't know.

I see talk about online schooling all the time, but is it worth it? How beneficial is it, since you're not necessarily getting taught hands on with guidance persay, and it won't be in a learning environment considering you're doing it at your own advise at home? Would you recommend I go to the actual school, or can online schooling be just as good? I'm sorry if I don't make sense but I hope I got my question across in a simple manner.

I don't think it'll be a problem honestly.
you are still learning all the techniques just on a computer
since the only school close to you is two hours away I don't think online beauty school would be a problem (:
but I would talk to someone who actually has done online beauty school!

Sandra, thank you. I know, I need to focus on my future. If it's meant to be with the dude, then it'll be. he'll understand. However, I really want to go to the college here to study towards being a CYFD investigator or teacher, see, so it's just a hard decision to make. It's such a scary thing, choosing a career path. Haha...off topic, anyways, I'm still young anyways I can work towards both, beauty now, the others later. Always good to have multiple things to fall back on. :) I have a lot of thinking to do, because I too learn better with hands on and guidance, I prefer doing it on my own but I can't be stubborn and hold myself from the opportunity of being there physically and getting help if I need it right then and there. Hmmmm..

I'm in college & I take online classes. I'm not in beauty school so I can't really help you with that specific area, but I can say that it's way more challenging than attending the actual class. My boyfriend goes to class on campus & he doesn't do half as much work as I do, keep in mind we have the same classes. Even though I'm not in beauty school I think it would be the same for you if you did online schooling. It would be much more easier to comprehend what you have to do in person & being hands on versus staring at a computer screen for hours. Ya know? I'm probably nooooo help whatsoever lmfao.

I am homes-chooled and I haven't had a problem learning anything, but I want to attend beauty school as well (for makeup). I thought about doing an online course but I think something like that would be better to do hands-on. But that is just my opinion :)

I've done online schooling a lot, for a couple years now(not for Cosmo, but still), and it's SO much better than everyone thinks. It's basically a virtual classroom. They often have call sessions where you get to talk to the teacher with either a mic (when allowed) or by text, and the teacher can be on video or just speaking and showing you their computer. It's really cool. But I'd definitely look into it more, call or at least read up on how they do things. Cosmo is very much hands on, so I'm not sure how it'd all work. They might have a few days a month that you come in (online gym class was 2 houes Tues-Wed every 2 weeks in a gum) or they might just send the supplies and ask for pictures. You could also take little courses, I know here they have little 2-3 day or week classes for like nails, or certain types of makeup, or hairstyles. I'm sure you'd stick with the online, as long as you don't need the physical going somewhere to put you in the working mood, and make yourself do at least an hour (or more) a day, even if it's just reading on Sat, you'd do fine. They'd give you deadlines and stuff. But if you get home and just laze around, not doing anything or not wanting to be productive than it probably won't work. I had to train myself to not just sleep in and tell myself I'd do extra hours tomorrow lol.

Oh, and I'm a super hands on learner but I didn't find any difficulty understanding. They make it super simple, they don't use fancy words to try and sound smart, they just explain it in small easy to understand words, and usually provide examples. if you have any questions it's easy to contact them. I know my social class, the teacher would provide links to like wiki pages or dictionary sites to try and make it more understandable

Is it possible to do online for cosmetology? I know every state is different but a majority of class is hands on and a certain amount of hours are needed working with clients in a supervised environment. if the nearest school is 2 hours away, I say pack up and go!! with hair, there are skills and techniques that can only be learned in person.

I agree with Kelly. When it comes to cosmetology you are setting yourself up for failure if you take the online route because the computer can't pick up the mistakes or correct a technique. Makeup is one thing but for hair and skincare, nails...in-person is the way to go. Online is great if you're going the traditional academic route (college) but not for what you want to do. ;)

I don't have a problem with online schooling, however when it comes to doing something in the beauty/cosmetology/skincare field I do not see the point in doing it online. When you work you will be doing things on people. You need the hands on experience and a teacher right there to help correct any mistakes and to guide you properly. Also when you're looking for a job 9 times out of 10 a place is going to hire someone who actually had hands on experience. All work places want experience. You can get away with it if you're learning something out of a text book but in the beauty industry the only way to go in my opinion is to be hands on to gain experience. Also, you can get a lot of references from professors because they can see exactly how good your skills are.

Thank you for posting this renay I actually have been thinking tne same thing about online ir an actual school so now I know what I'm going to do too but I will be waiting until my son starts school in a couple years the only bad thing about tbe schools around me they are all only focused on hair where I'm more focused on makeup but I would like to learn about hair because then I would have a better chance at working in a salon
