So frustrating 😩

It's the most frustrating thing to spend all sorts of time on my eye makeup, and no one can really see my hard work as I have hooded eyes. 😕 I have tried lifting eye creams, firming face masks and have watched my sodium intake as I've heard it can make it worse. Nothing helps, I still look tired and my eyelids droop. Other than an eyebrow lift, does anyone know of a product out there that could help minimize my hooded eyes?

You can't even see my eye makeup without me closing my eyes or looking straight down.

Honestly I don't think there is anything you can do about it aside from embracing it really. Some of the most beautiful women have hooded eyes and there are loads of makeup tutorials on youtube that can show you how to really make the most of them :)

There are lots of YouTube videos about properly applying makeup to hooded eyes - you need to extend your makeup passed your crease or no one will see it - you need to work on your hood not so much on your lid - focus dark colors on the outer corner of your crease and blend out - also placing light color on your lids usually helps too - I'll find some photos of hooded eye makeup that looks beautiful.

See how she extends the color past her crease so when she opens her eyes you can see it - another tip is to apply your makeup with your eyes open to begin with so you know for sure you can see it and so can everyone else.

Extending past the crease is the key.

Also highlighting the tear duct helps as in the photo above.

Also if you do a wing you also need to extend the wing passed your crease as well like in this photi.

This one is a simple gradient that looks good on any hooded eye.

Try an egg white mask. I've only recently read into this, but the results looked great! I'll be trying it soon, but basically all you do is crack open an egg and remove the yolk, and use a q tip to apply the whites onto your crease, a little above & below. the results are only temprorary, of course, for about 2-3 days. Also leave the qtip on the are for 3-4 minutes

Thanks Diana! I didn't wear a lot of makeup in my teens, and now that I'm older and wearing more makeup products, I realizing the challenges I'm having. I will definitely look up YouTube videos and practice. It makes it harder to the fact I don't have a steady hand, but practice makes perfect. :)

I'll have to try that Skye. I just hope I don't walk around smelling like rotten eggs. Haha 😂

Oh my god, please don't put egg whites near your eyes, that just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I have very hooded eyes and I find it all to be just trial and error. Take the time to experiment with color placement and techniques and see what works with your eyes (:

Try and pull colour over the crease. I'll post some pictures I found off google.

I have them too! I hate it! When I was in high school, I trained myself to slightly lift my brows to lessen the "hood." I still do it to this day! But yes, what everyone else has mentioned, just extend your makeup, other than that we just have to embrace it! :)

Ugh I feel yah Katya!! Same as you I didn't wear much eyeshadow during high school. So now that I'm experimenting with eyeshadow It just doesn't show. I watch a few you tube videos that helped a bit. I read as well that Matt shadows are best for hooded eyes.

I have really bad hooded eyes. I find adding a liquid line, like the black along your lash line is what hides all your work. I never wear cat eye liner because in a resting position, you only see the black and no lid. You should try going without it. And pull your shadow higher than your crease. But keep resting your face to make sure it's visible. :)

Actually. Look at those pictures, most of them have no liquid line. Or a very small one. And the top one that has a thick liquid line, you can't see the lid at all when its open. Really keep it in mind :) it doesn't look weird or anything. Like I said. I very rarely wear a liquid line.

Yes- makeup is all about illusion. Cheat the crease and put it higher so it's visible. Remember light colors bring things forward so you want to stay away from highlight or light color on the brow bone since it's already the most visible part of your eyelid. I love to focus on the outer third with hooded eyes. Love that look Shauna. See how it's lifting the eye up. Wing the liner out a bit. You don't have to so a full cat eye. Just turn the line upwards to make your lids appear lifted. Embrace your eye shape. It's lovely just like round, almond, deep set or any eye shape. Also be careful with dark liner on the bottom as it can make the eye bottom heavy defeating the purpose. I like going in no further than one third and doing lighter liner or shadow on the inner two thirds. :)

Another little tip that I've found to be useful from doing other people's makeup with hooded eyes (I lucked out there; don't got 'em myself) is to tightline rather than wear like a cat eye or some other eyeliner heavy look. Like what others have said, the eyeliner can end up being a focal point and hide all your hard work, but if you still want the enhanced lash effect of eyeliner, just tightline. :)
