I have combo/oily skin and recently moved to the South (hot and muggy). In the past I never really had to use face primers but b/c of the weather here and my type of skin I have been using a primer (w matte foundations & little powder) to keep me oil-free. I use Too Faced's Primed and Poreless which I believe has silicone in it (which is what I think is necessary to keep oil away). But when I use the primer I get little tiny bumps/breakouts. So my question is - does silicone clog your pores? Should I try a primer without silicone? Why do people choose non-silicone primers?

The Too Faced primer broke me out badly. Took me a year to get my face cleaned up. I have oily skin with hormonal acne. Great primers for me have been the Hourglass and recently the Lorac mattifying primer. So to sum up, yes for me, the Too Faced primer clogged my face up,bad!

Well I have oily, acne prone skin and that primer didn't break me out at all but it didn't help too much with oiliness. Did you use the oil-free for sensitive skin? But I agree with Monica I love the Lorac Porefection mattifying primer.

@ Jaqueline - I was hoping you would post!! Thank you so much for the info. I have to check my foundation now (but I'm pretty sure it's oil free)but if you had to suggest a mattifying primer what would you suggest? Again thank you so much for the informative post! 💙

@Taina so happy you asked! I know know thanks to @ Jacqueline it wasn't clogging my pores. It was a full year for the break outs and the left over scaring to clear up. The Lorac and Hourglass are the 2 primers I've found that do not cause a bead up of the primer. good luck on your search, let us know what you get?

I am also sensitive to silicone. It makes my face itch. I love Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. The Nurturing Force sounds amazing too- especially for the summer months. I will check it out, Jacqueline. :)

So many people rave about the Hourglass one...it's just soo expensive! I'm going to try and get my hands on a sample.

I will say for me, personally, having sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts... I don't have an issue with silicone primers as such. The issue I have more than anything is products with fragrance in them. So, a silicone primer can be fine/great; it just depends on the other ingredients.
I'm big on drugstore products; moreso than high end makeup. I do like some high end stuff but I'm always trying to find something cheaper that I can keep up on if work is slow and I can't afford something pricy.
I like silicone based primers because I feel like it creates a barrier between my face and my foundation/other products, which can help prevent breakouts activated by makeup.
I really like Hard Candy primers, and they specifically have a mattifying one. Lately, I've been using Maybelline Baby Face primer and it has not broken me out and does a pretty good job of keeping my makeup where I put it. I have to let it sit for a minute or two before I apply my foundation.
