I don't know what you mean exactly by "indie" - but Tarte is vegan (for the most part) and is cruelty free. Some other cruelty free brands are NYX, elf, and Urban decay

Indie makeup as in, unknown. Like indie polishes, for example, Pretty Zombie cosmetics, KB Shimmer polishes

Face secrets is underrated, although it is just a brand for makeup brushes you can find at a beauty supply store (Sally's is where I go)
they are sooo soft!
better than EcoTools & real techniques.
