There is over the counter cold sore medication available like Abreva. You'll still have to live with it for a week or two. Don't scratch it, don't pick at it - and it goes without saying - don't share your food/beverages and don't kiss anyone.

Try taking a tea bag and running it under hot water, and holding it on your cold sore for awhile. I had to do this last night because I'm also sick and I have a cold sore, and it is gone today.

^ a tea bag has caffeine in it. Your cold sore (if that's what it really was) isn't gone...the inflammation/swelling went down because you constricted the blood vessels. A cold sore is a viral infection and tea does not fix an infection.

Try putting pure aloe vera on it!

If you get outbreaks frequently or they are particularly bad when they happen, your doctor can prescribe Valtrex (generic: Valcyclovir) to prevent or lessen their duration. I take it as soon as I feel that tingling and it helps prevent the outbreak or lessen the severity and duration. Over-the-counter products like Abreva can help reduce symptoms, but won't prevent an outbreak.
