Why are tanning mitts so crappy?

I started self tanning in earnest for the first time this year. I feel like I can only get maybe 3 uses out of a tanning mitt before it falls apart starting at the top where my middle finger is. I've tried several brands. I've tried using a soft mousse and not rubbing too vigorously. I even tried hot gluing them back together and it STILL fell apart! Does anyone have any tips? These are 6.50 each!

I always used rubber gloves, like the kind you get in a box from the Beauty Supply store. Worked great for me with both mousse and lotion...I could really rub it in nicely. I remember one member suggesting using a maxi pad..lol

I recently got a set from Sephora that came with an self tanning mitt, an exfoliating mitt, and a little self tanner removing sponge (not sure how that works) on sale for $5.00. It was a little set or the 3, I think retailing for 12$ or so but it was definitely on sale for 5$ and I have to say it is the BEST tanning mitt I've ever tried! I've used ones as nice as St. Tropez to as bad as one on sale for literally 25 cents at Walmart hahaha, the Sephora one is so so nice! If you happen to find it at your local Sephora I would buy like...10!! Lol :)

Also I've never tried using a rubber glove before but I'm totally going to try it! I have sooo many rubber gloves from my mom (she has MS and her apartment doubles as a medical supply store lol) Thank you Rozberry! 💕

I hope it works for you, Grace! I worked in small sections quickly, but it was always even for me.

I order tanceuticals dark tanning lotion and their mitt it's like $5 and it's never fallen apart on me and it's a great mitt.

Thanks, everyone! I might seriously try the maxi pads with plastic gloves! Lol!
