I've been having issues with lipstick longevity. I lose color in like an hour. I use higher end lipsticks but they still don't last. Do I need lip liner? Primer? Am I putting it on too thick or thin? How do I put lipstick on to make it last? Any advice would be great! I'm desperate!

Do you exfoliate your lips?

I don't but my lips aren't dry.

Exfoliating will really help, especially if you have dry lips. Also, I'd recommend putting on a thick layer of lipbalm overnight. I use Palmers cocoa butter solid formula and it's great. Lipliner will help hugely with longetivity, I use either BarryM or NYX lipliners and both are fab. I find a lip primer never really helps me, and putting lipstick on too thick can make it come off easier. Putting thinner coats on will help, think of it like nails polish.
To make it last, exfoliate then put on a thin layer of lipbalm. Wait for it to sink in slightly, then 'colour' your lips in with the lip liner. Apply the lipstick in thin layers until desired effect.
For exfoliant, I love Lush lip exfoliants (my favourite is Mint Julip) but oil and sugar (preferably demerara) works just as well. I believe ELF do a lip scrub stick too

You could try a lipstain 1st then apply your lipstick. So when your lipstick wears off, youll still have color on your lips. I like the Covergirl lipstains for thia purpose.

I'll look into lip stains!
Hannah---thanks so much! I'll try that first. I have clear lip liner. I don't want to have to buy a ton of new lip liners so I was worried.

Hello! maybe you don't choose long wear lipsticks. moisturizing lipsticks don't usually don't usually last the longest (there are exceptions).
I'm not much of a high end girl, but drugstores offer a good range of long wear lipstick. loreal infaillible is great. I only need to reapply after I eat a real copious meal.

Jen---thanks!
Mai--that's a thought. I'm big on the moisturizing so maybe I just have to compromise.

Thanks for all the tips! I got a lip scrub and it made a big difference. I also realized the random Chapstick I was using was drying my lips.
