Hi I was wondering the cons of getting acrylic nails and also if I could shape and paint my nails to sort of look like I have acrylics?

A big con is the possibility of damage. Yes if applied and removed correctly, damage is minimal, but if they are not the damage to your natural nail could be great.
As for painting them like acrylics, do you mean the French tip? Or just the length. For French tip absolutely you can paint them without acrylics. If you mean the length, painting them will not really affect it. Yes there are designs to make them appear longer, but the difference is minimal. If you really want to add on to your length, I recommend getting gel nails. They are molded to your nail, and they can shape them like acrylics. They are also less damaging than acrylics, but there is always the possibility of damage if they are not properly applied and removed 😀 hope this helps 😀

The glue damages your nails. I got acrylic nails about 3 months ago & I still have the glue on my nails. & if you like playing sports or are active I highly recommend not getting them bc if something hits your acrylic nail & it breaks, your real nail will break along with it.

The biggest con is definitely damage. It can really mess up your nails if not applied and removed correctly. As Sabrina said, if you play sports or are very active, it will be very likely to break or at least hurt badly. My friend says the first couple of days are awful, but then you sort of get used to it. I recommend not getting them and just letting your nails grow out themselves (if you are wanting length) and shape and paint them however you like 😊

The biggest con is definitely the damage! I've found its tough to find a tech that's really great- both of my recent sets were bad. The first sanded my natural nail too thin to the point that it was a little painful and the second did an all around terrible job with the acrylic lifting within a few days which leaves your nails susceptible to water getting in and then fungus - gross!

That being said, I love having acrylics. If you get a good tech it'll help minimize the damage.

Growing natural nails out to be long like acrylics can be tough, a lot of girls I know with long natural nails will get them covered with acrylic anyways (just no tip) to help protect them from breakage.

Good luck!

I'm with TK. I have liquid gel applied to my own nails and can grow them insanely long if I so choose without any tips. I never break nails anymore and my no chip lasts for weeks. It's my own nail so no worrying about hiding tears or chips. I love them.
