Does anyone have any recommendations for a good contouring kit?

If you are only using it on yourself, a contouring kit can, frankly speaking, be a waste of money as there may be some (if not most) shades that you don't use as some may not work with your skin tone. Many 'contour' kits are glorified, redressed bronzers. I'd recommend getting a contour powder or cream (such as the Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder). However, the Kevyn Aucoin contour kit is AMAZING and is made for the sole use of contour

I really enjoy the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder... it's a perfect contour shade that is neither warm in tone like most contour kits or glittery - no need for 10 million contour colors. It mimics a shadow beautifully and you only need a little bit of product. For creams I use either the RCMA contour palette or my Kryolan TV paint stick in FS31.

I absolutely love the Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette. The shades are cool toned so they're perfect for contouring. The shades have perfect pigmentation, are so smooth, and blend beautifully. The highlighting powders are also brightening. I use 3 of the shades (Lyric, Lucid, and Sombre) so I feel that I'm getting my money's worth (I might be able to use Shadowplay as well but I haven't played around with it yet). All in all, I recommend it (:

I haven't tried this yet but what I'm going to buy are the Nyx Banana Powder and their Taupe Blush as a contour. That Kevyn Aucoin would be great but it's very expensive for me.

Sounds good then Kevyn Aucoin would be my suggestion. I'll link here another thread that was asking a similar question today. I had posted a few pictures of a few cheaper alternative with swatches of Kevyn
