I am only sixteen therefore I don't experience any aging or wrinkles yet. My question is how to prevent premature aging, how to keep my skin healthy and radiant? I would like to know what I should do so I can start doing it now to help me out in the long run and when I am older. I understand always putting on sunscreen and patting my face and skin but what else?

Hey Michaela! I'm 16 too and it sounds like you've got the basics down. The only things I have to add are to drink lots of water (seriously, it took me ages to actually start doing this, but it's helped my skin sooooo much) and to not pick at any acne you might have. I'm so guilty about popping my zits, but it's better in the long run to leave them be...unfortunately. I'd also just like to say that honestly it's not something to be too worried about! It's always good to want to keep your skin healthy but at 16 you and I have got nothing to worry about when it comes to aging and wrinkles :)

I'm 41 years old and DEEP into anti-aging. 16 years old...you are ahead of the game by incorporating sunscreen in your routine. Kudos to you on that one. You could also add a vitamin c serum as well to wear under your sun protection as well. Its another layer of armor in regards to photo-aging. Another item...keeping your eye area hydrated by using an eye cream. It doesn't have to be anything ultra advance when it comes to formula. I personally like Mario Badsecu Hyluronic Eye Cream.

and brown spots

Yes Alicia. Vitamin C helps with fading acne scarring (dependent on how deep the scarring is though). And fading brown spots to a certain degree (also dependent on how deep they go). Angela mentioned a great vitamin c formula. Paula's Choice also has one as well that I hear is pretty good. I personally use Philosophy Turbo Booster C Powder. I mix it either with my SPF moisturizer or in Philosophy When Hope Is Not Enough Facial Firming Serum. I have been using both Philosophy products for several years now but I think my remaining stash will be my last because I'm eyeing more advance products to up my program ( more on the medi side of skincare than the usual lineup found at ULTA or Sephora).

The vitamin c will actually prevent sun spots from occuring in the first place so if that is a big concern I would definitely err on the side of prevention because they are a pain to get rid of once they crop up. And they usually do years later after exposure (sunbathing without proper sun protection is the number one cause of the pesky marks).

Hey Shelley, do you ever find that sunscreen contributes to acne? I don't go outside that much during summer months but I find that whenever I use sunscreen or sunblock my skin doesn't like it very much

@Livi...you might need to look into a mineral based formula. And sometimes the higher spf's can cause skin grief as well. I love Loreal Silky Sheer Face Lotion 50+ but I notice if I wear it days on end I will crop up with a few acne visitors. So I rotate formulas based on my activity of the day.

Is garnier skin renew for dark spots any good? it has 5%pure vitamin c it says

I can't comment on the Garnier Skin Renew as I've never tried it myself. Some lines worth looking into as far as prevention goes Alicia is Skinceuticals,Obagi ( I may have misspelled that one) and Dermalogical. Those are just the one's I know of and have had personal experience of using. SkinCeuticals is truly my fave when it comes to intensive anti-aging serums. But out of the gate...sun protection is your first line of defense.

What are good intensive anti aging serums?

If just starting out I would look into Skinceuticals Serum 10 AOX+. I used it and loved it. There are others that proceed that one and increase in percentage of certain ingredients but I suggest starting out with 10 AOX+ first. Because the very first time I dived into Skinceuticals I started with the highest and experienced a lil irritation because it was too much for my skin at the time. Another one is Resveratrol BE which is to be used exclusively for PM use to assist in overnight rejuvenation of the skin. The stuff is pricey as heck but the results are impressive just from a preventive and corrective standpoint. My bestie is using it and her skin has improved immensely. I'll probably reach for it soon myself but I have a stock pile of serums and I need to exhaust those first before I go cracking open a new one.

One thing noone has mentioned Michaela G is do not smoke. I am 71 and the skin of my friends who smoke/or used to smoke is so different to us who have never smoked. My skin in relatively smooth with no deep lines on forehead, around eyes or around mouth and my neck is reasonable, no signs of a "turkey neck". I was given a lovely gift around Christmas 2014 of Monsia Skincare and I love it to bits. My skin loves the shea butter and jojoba oil that form the common ingredients in the cleanser, toner, day moisturiser and intense night repair cream.

Excellent advice from Shelley. She's spot on.
Lin, smoking, drugs, excessive drinking, poor diet and sunworship are skin wreckers. I always encourage folks to boost their Omega 3's and get their greens and C packed goodies on. Stress, lack of sleep and overall health definitely changes your skin and so skincare at any age should be approached from a health perpsective. Skin is own largest organ and so protecting and nourishing it is crucial. Great advice!
