To SPF or not to SPF?

So for homecoming pictures we go to a local garden/botanical area that's outdoors, but you're not supposed to wear SPF when you take pictures. So should I put SPF on my face for homecoming or no?

Always, always wear SPF. Sunscreen of any form does not cause flashback in photos, that's a myth. Ask Jackie, she can explain why flashback is caused by a bunch of application mistakes in a row, rather than sunscreen.

I have never had any flash back with SPF- I even took picture day pics in school with SPF 50 on my face with no white cast. I find that if you don't blend it in all the way it never fully sinks into you skin, therefore leaving your face white/ white casted in photos

You will get some flashback if you use Foundation with SPF

If the foundation uses titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide then you'll get flashback and avoid that, ifyour foundation has a large amount of silica then it can also give a bit of flashback. (From personal experience)


If you're talking about underneath your makeup you'll be fine, if you're also talking about chemical sunscreen then you'll be fine whether it's under makeup, in makeup or even over makeup.
Chemical sunscreens don't give flashback only the physical sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide)

If your foundation has a physical sunscreen then just use a tinted powder or powder foundation (watch out for those with too mischief silica) over and it should fine

Even then, it depends on the photographer, GENERALLY they use bounced flash and that tends to not give flashback in general.
The flash on phones or compact cameras use direct flash and can be very harsh. I'd try and test the product you are going to be using with direct flash since its worse and can show you if there is any flashback whatsoever and can tell you what you'll need to do from there whether it doesn't give flashback and you're fine or you just need if to add a powder that has some color
