i have a massive scar from a scoliosis op. I used a combination of bio-oil, vitamin e cream and aloe vera gel. Getting a bit of sun on it didnt hurt either.

Getting sun on scars will make it worse. It ends up giving you hyper pigmentation. You may see slight results at first because your skin around darkens but in the long run it will make it worse.

i got a tiny bit of sun on mine about two months after the op, it's fine. I wasnt suggesting go out all day with no sun screen and bask in the hot sun! worked for me thats all.

Speaking of scar removal, how can I get rid of a chicken pox scar? In the same way? It looks more like a little indention in my skin, not just a flat discoloration.

Rub some lemon on them. Put on some moisturizer after cause its drying.
