Back in October I was in a car accident that should have killed me. Luckily, I made it out with only minor injuries. But now I have a really ugly scar next to my left eye where I had to have stitches. I am currently using Mederma scar gel but I am wondering if anyone knows about anything else that might help?

Thankfully you are okay! I say be proud of it! You survived something awful and that will always be a part of your life story. I rock all of my scars as part of my personal tapestry, and if someone asks about them I always have a story.

If you are really concerned about fading it, Mederma should help it fade. Cocoa butter and vitamin E have also been tauted to reduce scars, but it all depends on the type of scar. Hypertrophic scars have to be repaired with plastic surgery, as do keloids. Smooth scars are easier to fade topically.

Thanks everyone. I'll look into some of those.
Emily - I've had a lot of people tell me that. But in all honesty almost dying at 18 is not something I want to be reminded of every time I look in the mirror for the rest of my life. I don't know if you've been in anything quite that traumatic or not, but most people who haven't don't understand why it's such a big deal to me. Other scars that I have don't bother me. But they aren't on my face and the emotions behind them aren't as deep.

I can understand that. I have been very close to death several times-- I am severely asthmatic. That doesn't leave visible scars, but if they did they would be hard to look at. I totally support your reasoning and think that if that's what you need to do, then by all means do it. I hope that it fades without needing any other intervention.

It can be hard to get rid of scars especially if they're deep. If you try creams and they don't work you could try cosmetic tattooing or laser. I had burns on my body and after 6 treatments they've basically disappeared.

This isn't very deep and it's already lightened up a lot. I'm just hoping it goes away entirely. I'm just tired of seeing a car accident victim when I look in the mirror instead of me.

I make an organic scar balm, it contains rosehip oil which is excellent for scars, you can see more there http://www.lj-natural.com/#/new-cold-sleep-solutions/4572520127 and I do ship abroad if you email me to ask for a price.
