Beauty Product Reviews
MY FAVORITE IN THE BUFFER FAMILY
Initially, when I purchased this brush earlier this year, it was going to stay packed in my “ permanent “ travel kit. Sometimes I fly up to three times in a week so I don’t have time to pull brushes from my vanity desk, If I know a brush works I tend to have two to three backups. Obviously we all LOVE the original sheer buffer, with this one the handle gives you more control and dare I say the hair is even softer to the touch! Total work horse, I can’t do my cream bronzer/contour without her. Out of all the sheer buffers so far this is hands down the best. The handle is so comfortable in the hand I can’t even explain it. I’ve really enjoyed this brush with many types of liquid foundations as well, one of the best blends ever. Fast forward this is now one of my permanent vanity brushes and not just travel…if you know you know ;)
BRUSH HOLDER?? HMM...
I've sat on this review for quite some time, but I can't be the only one who actually practices cleanliness, organization and keeping my vanity table completely functional all year round. Yes, the wood is gorgeous and I appreciate that they are velvet lined but overall makes no sense for someone who actually USES their brushes. Example with my makeup application alone I am picking up 25+ brushes for a beat. So the fact that one little thing can off set the stand all the brushes go falling on one side or smash into each other is extremely disappointing. Almost like it doesn't hold your brushes upright on their own. If you overfill with more brushes like I've seen others do the hairs will get smothered and depending on the hair type it will DAMAGE them & even misshape and leave them with dents (etc squirrel/kazan/EXS)
I've even bought a additional "brush holder" thinking If I keep one brush in each slot it would stand upright... However they did not. I've attached a photo of what typically happens when you try to stay them up right... one bump/drawer close and they all go tumbling down.. I am a very visual person and it is such a turn off to see my desk out of place. I don't understand why there isn't actually any inserts or something we can add to the inside to make this functionaly without just being a beautiful paper weight. I love my brushes way too much to not honor them properly.
GREAT MULTI TASKER
I was a little hesitant to pick up this palette due to it not being disclosed where the product is actually made on Beautylish or on Kevin’s site. Overall, it’s really amazing. I did use every shade on my face for a recent weekend trip. After I used loose powder to set my concealer, I did go over with both of the shades lace and silk with a squirrel brush, and it was very buttery and soft. The contour shades are great for eyes and defining the lips but very pigmented so dip in lightly at your own risk. Almost was a little harsh for my nose contour, but it blended out lovely with the translucent pressed powder. Photos were taken that night and I didn’t see any major flashback. The blushes are really lovely especially when mixed. The highlighters looked really beautiful but they were pressed almost so hard that I had to take the whole top layer off both of them to get them to work. That’s why I’m giving it four stars but other than that great for a one and done. The Rae Morris travel brushes went perfectly with this too!
If anyone knows where the product is made please let me know. And also to address the old bitter women that had something to say about my last review.. I am entitled to my own opinion at the end of the day I am spending my OWN money. Nothing is gifted or sponsored for me and for that reason I should be able to be 100% honest. I am not here for your entertainment and I’m not here to be best friends with everyone online. Especially when it comes to mediocre brushes or products. It seems like people are really afraid to speak their mind or be honest when it comes to a product due to backlash or cancel culture. Not I! I have been in this industry for way too long to keep my mouth shut. But since you want make this personal instead of professional, let me enlighten you both. Georgette M you could disagree with me all you want, Look at you and look at me. “A simple not for me” is not sufficient enough especially when I am writing MY OWN review. As far as naysay.. you literally wrote my name on your review. I’m allowed to have my opinion. Also I never said price was an issue, and I’m sorry I don’t like anything mass produced. Most of my things are custom/handmade and engraved with my name but you probably wouldn’t know anything about that. I graduated from high school 16 years ago when did you? Grow up. Pamella R I don’t know why you’re confused? Regardless of my eye shape, I should be able to buy any brush to use and enjoy. That’s why I like to shop on Beautylish, The customer service is always great, but you ladies are all so foul and negative. I would be more concerned with the stencil box brows I’m seeing now.
XOXO, G
EXCELLENT FOR BRONZER!
Seriously UNDERRATED brush here. The mix of the dyed goat and squirrel hair gives you the best of both worlds. My brush runs more on the soft/silky side. After you wash her and she takes her true form you get this beautifully rounded oval shape. Amazing for bronzer and pressed powders. Personally I love that I can build up my bronzer with this brush due to the pick up being more on the squirrel side. So fluffy and soft. It may not be as weighted as most Japanese brushes but for that it’s ideal to travel with. The handle is a stunning sleek, sexy black slanted handle. In my attached photo I have next to serval CHIKUHODO brushes (Z-1) & (MK-SK) so you can see how big & beautiful the YANO 02 is.
EFFICIENT & CUTE
The passion series is such a great collection to own if you are just starting out or even if you are just a collector. The cheek brush blooms beautifully and is great for blush and bronzer. For this being dyed goat it is extremely soft & does not irritate my sensitive skin. Beautiful fuchsia pink handles with a stunning pink glitter. Perfect for travel when I don’t want to lug my precious fude around and not ruin the integrity of my application.
GORGEOUS BRUSHES
I definitely slept on these brushes for too long. After experiencing the Surratt eye brushes I felt more confident with these shapes and overall performance. They definitely fill the gap with the Smokey brushes if you already have those but are special enough to have their own moment. I find myself reaching for these more due to the lite weight of the handles and how much control I have over them. Definitely some of my favorite eye blenders, these are like pure silky on the eyes. Such an amazing experience using these while doing my eye makeup. Everyone should have in their collection based on versatility and uniqueness of the beautiful hair alone. Great for my hooded eyes and I can blow up/diffuse any dark shadow with such a beautiful gradient blend. In my photo I have them next to the Surratt brushes for reference, they are very different and worth having.
MOST UNDERRATED BRUSH
The YANO 05 has to be one of the best things I accidentally discovered. Essentially was looking for a travel under eye brush and ended up making her work full time on my vanity table. The blend of squirrel & goat is such a perfect marriage. I love using her after I lightly set my under eye with more powder and even dusting off my bake with this. Due to the size and weight it’s the perfect brush to keep in your purse/bag to touch up. I even bought an extra one for that purpose for blotting powder or to fix my under eye through the evening. (after I blot) The shape is truly amazing, tapered yet fluffy. Describing this brush is like imagining if the Chanel precision powder & the M.A.C 240 had a baby this would be it. Handles are lite yet sexy & sleek all in one. Wish I would’ve found this brush sooner! Technically it's advertised as a highlighting brush but for under eye/t zone it’s a dream.
AMAZING SHAPE & AMAZING BRUSHES
Surratt makes some of the most unique brushes I’ve ever seen. The candle flame shape can be intimidating at first but they are the best eye blenders I have ever used. Extremely silky due to the squirrel hair & brushes are bundled so well. I’ve washed numerous times and have had ZERO shedding. I tend to grab the L & M Smokey when I’m short on time to bang out a Quick Look. Picks up the darkest mattes so softly and I can easily intensify when a few more dips of the shadow. I have hooded eyes and these diffuse and blow out my crease color with such an ease. Total game changer. Between the L & M Smokey brush I would also have to recommend the large face brush as well for setting/finishing & even bronzer. The handles have a good weighted feel to them with a stunning duo chrome glitter finish that is out of this world!
“ WELL AT LEAST THE HANDLES ARE BEAUTIFUL “
When it comes to new eye brushes I look for functionality as well as versatility and sad to say these are lacking that. While everyone can agree on how beautiful they look I rather not have a decorative set that I am unable to use. What’s the point? I feel like with Sonia’s eye brushes you either hate them or love them.
I really wanted to give this new collection a try this time around. Unfortunately I feel like she reused some old handles she had lying around and gave us something very mediocre here. If these brushes would sold individually would they even be anything special?
I have hooded eyes and I find not only are these brushes extremely small but 2 of 2 are practically identical. The flat pencil & the small builder are practically identical, just as the crease booster and the smooth blender. I’ll give Sonia one thing she managed to make an even smaller crease brush than her previous ones before. Useless in my opinion. Would’ve been nice to see a larger eye lid brush or even a bigger fluffy crease brush in this collection. As far as the price point $210 for four brushes? Not worth it when you break it down. I have HUNDREDS of fude and even synthetic brushes that can perform on a higher caliber. These brushes don’t feel special or let alone complete as this set. The hair beautiful and is very soft, these can be great for little detail work but if you are like me it’s nothing we don’t already have or haven’t seen. $100-$110 seems more acceptable for what we are getting. I could’ve done with put the box as well. Its size makes it unappealing to me.
Really disappointing overall. If I could give this a zero rating I would but I will give it 1 stars based of the aesthetic of the handles alone. It’s not the artist fault for making the brushes.
Aesthetically beautiful but
Typically I am a fan of larger eye brushes due to me having folded eyelids. This brush is firm and dense. I don’t find that this works well with any liquid or cream eyeshadow. Definitely can’t do a one and done on my face. Unfortunately it’s a little too firm to use for concealer and didn’t work well maybe if I was in my 20s but I am not gonna take anything this dense again under my eye and prematurely age or pull my under eye.
