Maki-e Series: Summer Koi 2024

Such a beautifully handcrafted set! Everything about it is just lovely. The dyed goat hair is incredibly soft, and the makie is stunning- and it goes beautifully with the GS red makie holiday set. The attention to detail is incredible and they're a joy to use:) I'd love to see another version of this set in maybe black and gold or something similar with WCS/RCS etc. That would be awesome:) Love it!

These eye brushes are absolutely gorgeous! I have several eye brush sets from Sonia and these are a great addition. The handles are stunning and they work great applying my eyeshadow.

I am in love with this new Maki set. Very soft and versatile brushes, great size for detailed work and for my small eyes. It has become a workhorse in my routine. I love the soft application which reminds of squirrel hair without the more delicate maintenance. Works as great as a set by itself or combined with the Christmas maki set or any other brushes by Sonia. I have nearly all her brushes and somehow each new one finds its specific role in my makeup. The handles and the box are absolutely beautiful.

The set is beautifully designed and I like the brushes. Personally I would have liked a bigger and more fluffier blending brush in the set, but the set is perfect for hooded/smaller eyes. Will use the smaller blending brush for detail work a lot.

I thoroughly enjoy this new set, which I have been using on repeat since I received them. Great workmanship, very easy to use on my small eyes. The set allows me to do a complete eye look quickly and easily but also complements well the previous Maki set. Easier to maintain than squirrel while having the same soft application. Love it !

I’m a fan of these shapes & fell hopelessly in love with the art on the handles. I’m glad I got them & hope Sonia does a face set to match. Wish the squirrel set had come with these handles. There’s only so much brown a woman can take. Love using these.

Well, to say that I disagree with Gabriel’s review is an understatement. He states “The flat pencil & the small builder are practically identical, just as the crease booster and the smooth blender”. Can’t you see it from the pictures that they are different? I received my brushes today and they are just as beautiful as I thought they were going to be. I don’t have heavily hooded eyes, but I’m in my late 50s. Yes I’ve tried them out, and although I prefer squirrel hair, these blushes blend beautifully. I didn’t experience any issues with the size of the brushes versus my eyes (? Lol), so I understand the comment regarding that….They are truly special, and I hope Sonia G and her team will not take to heart the negative comments. If those are not for you, that’s OK, move on. A simple not for me would’ve been sufficient . I will post a picture of these brushes next to the crane maki-e from a few months ago. I like that they become sort of a set. I’d like Sonia G to make some face brushes as well that would be fantastic. The price of these brushes are on point, as they are not mass produced. If price is an issue for you, there are some mass produced brushes you can buy. I buy Sonia brushes because I love fude, I prefer real hair brushes and therefore i expect paying more. After all, you have to pay for quality. Please do not listen to naysayers, make up your own opinion.

I missed out on Sonia's stunning Cranes (twice) so when I got the news that this set was coming, I was super excited! I love Koi AND I'm a huge fan of Sonia G. I own several of her brushes and use them daily. They are not only gorgeous but also, functional and help me create some of the most beautiful make up looks ever. All of these brushes are perhaps my favourite hands-down for creating a stunning and flawless eye make up look. Because I use my Wayne Goss brushes daily I decided to give these a go to see how they compare and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. I'm a woman in my 50's and so creating eye looks that are not only flattering for my hooded eyes and don't emphasize my creases is very important to me. Sonia's Koi set blends to perfection. Each brush has its own function. I'm confused by the person who wrote the review that these brushes are useless, small, inferior to synthetic brushes, and creating looks for hooded eyes. Then why purchase these to begin with? I used all four brushes today to create a stunning look for my hooded eyes that was seamless and perhaps one of the best I've created in a long time!!! I'm so impressed and I want to thank Sonia for creating such a beautiful and practical eye brush set. Expensive? Yes! But as an Artist, I can tell you that I recognize the vast amount of work and meticulous attention to detail that goes into creating a set such this. You can't expect to get such beautiful craftsmanship at drugstore or discounted prices and so that being said, I understand that these may not be for everyone. I personally have nothing negative to say about this set. It's an investment for sure but if you're a lover of Koi, Japanese craftsmanship, and Sonia's brushes, you will LOVE these

When it comes to new eye brushes I look for functionality as well as versatility and sad to say these are lacking that. While everyone can agree on how beautiful they look I rather not have a decorative set that I am unable to use. What’s the point? I feel like with Sonia’s eye brushes you either hate them or love them.

I really wanted to give this new collection a try this time around. Unfortunately I feel like she reused some old handles she had lying around and gave us something very mediocre here. If these brushes would sold individually would they even be anything special?

I have hooded eyes and I find not only are these brushes extremely small but 2 of 2 are practically identical. I’ll give Sonia one thing she managed to make an even smaller crease brush than her previous ones before. Useless in my opinion. Would’ve been nice to see a larger eye lid brush or even a bigger fluffy crease brush in this collection. As far as the price point $210 for four brushes? Not worth it when you break it down. I have HUNDREDS of fude and even synthetic brushes that can perform on a higher caliber. These brushes don’t feel special or let alone complete as this set. The hair beautiful and is very soft, these can be great for little detail work but if you are like me it’s nothing we don’t already have or haven’t seen. $100-$110 seems more acceptable for what we are getting. I could’ve done with put the box as well. Its size makes it unappealing to me.

Really disappointing overall. If I could give this a zero rating I would but I will give it 1 stars based of the aesthetic of the handles alone. It’s not the artist fault for making the brushes.

This is an absolutely beautiful addition to Sonia G’s Maki-e Series. As expected, they are not just beautiful to look at but are truly functional. I am excited to see more brushes added to the Maki-e series (hopefully some face brushes will be added).
