Beauty Product Reviews

Contains Alcohol

I wrote a glowing review for this earlier in the year, but--with extended use of this, I found it to be quite irritating to my skin. To be clear, I am a Retin-A user so my skin needs soothing products. This made my skin sting every time I applied it. Since this is a "Clean" brand, imagine my surprise to find out that Alcohol (plain old alcohol) is one of the top ingredients (3rd maybe?). I substituted this with another "Clean" brand peptide serum that is soothing and it has made all the difference. Buyer beware...

My Favorite Moisturizer

Let me clarify, firstly, that I am a Retin-A user each night for adult cystic acne (I am 48). I was having HUGE issues with daily facial dryness. I tried all kinds of moisturizers--even the most expensive, Big Name one which worked well for the beginning of the day, but left me with flaky skin in the afternoon. The main thing most moisturizers have in common is that they are glycerin-based. I ran across this moisturizer, touted as a product "in every French girl's medicine cabinet". The price was so low, I was suspicious of the quality. BUT I noted it was NOT glycerin-based; it was paraffinum liquidum or mineral oil based. Not enthused of using oil on my face, but lacking any other options, I bought a few sample/travel size tubes. The results were: a huge difference. Yes, it seemed a bit oily but it did NOT make me break out at all! It smelled like lilacs AND kept me moisturized all day! Once it soaks in, the oiliness isn't really an issue (my skin is combination). Loving everything about this product, I sent some to my sister who also loves it! And it's so affordable! I highly recommend!

Silky Smooth

After looking at a TON of loose powders, I chose this one based on reviews, etc. I made the right choice by far. I've used plenty of loose powders but I love this one because it is SO fine, it makes my muddled complexion look amazing. I don't work; am home every day, but I have an uneven complexion and, after looking at BB and CC creams, I felt that if I was going to use one of those, I might as well just wear foundation! I found this powder and have been using it daily after my serums and moisturizer have had time to set. And it's like wearing a very very very light foundation! It's so smooth, the color--though it looks white, still lets the color of your skin come through and so fine--it does NOT settle into lines or wrinkles. It comes with a powder puff, which is what I use to apply it and it does a really great job of distributing the product. No brush needed. Also, the container is compact, which is fine because you don't need to use a lot of product each day. So I use this daily instead of foundation or other face make-up. Looks great and, of course, cleanses off easily with micellar water at days end. Take a leap of faith. You won't regret it!

Excellent for Soothing Skin

I am in my late 40s and use Retin-a (a high dose) for adult acne. I also have super-sensitive skin. I read that this was an Allure Beauty "Splurge" item, so I splurged. It makes me love my skin again. After cleansing and toning, my skin is tight and dry from the Retin-a. This mask soothes these properties very well. After rinsing it off, my face is ready for serums and moisturizer. I'm so sorry the other reviewer developed blisters from it--sounds like a bad allergy to an ingredient or two. But, I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Super sensitive skin AND use Retin-a (which makes skin even more sensitiive) and have loved this mask. Don't shy away. Give it a shot!

Best Primer

I have tried them all--from Smashbox to Charlotte Tilbury, but THIS one is my gold standard. Makeup glides over it and STAYS, leaving an absolutely flawless finish. I have sensitive skin (am on Retin-A) that is prone to acne even at my age! So I have to look for something that will smooth wrinkles without causing a breakout. This totally fits the bill. I swear by it.

Not For Combination Skin

I read reviews all over the place before I bought this. I needed a very gentle, not overpowering moisturizer. I'm 47 with Combination Skin and on Retin-A for middle-aged acne so I have dry areas and oily areas. I used this for 3 days and was breaking out--I think it's a tad too oily. But I read the reviews below and this stuff is a miracle for extra dry skin and skin that's prone to rosacea and other conditions. I'll stick with Biafine for now while I shop for a different moisturizer.

Very Very Sheer

I was really looking forward to getting this lip gloss--I am seeking the perfect pink lip gloss. I waited impatiently for it to arrive and then I applied it and I saw: almost nothing. It's SO sheer you can barely tell it's on. This is going to my niece, I am not keeping it for myself. Bummer. But, It tastes like candy and goes on smoothly with a nice gloss.

Pretty box for the countertop!

I have some storage for my makeup, but more often, I end up leaving it on the bathroom counter. I saw this and took a chance. It's better than expected. It's heavy and well-made, gorgeous and bigger than I thought. SO glad I bought this!
