Hey Darcy! I saw in your profile info that you work for Mac in San Francisco. I also live in SF and when I turn 18 I plan on going for a job at Mac as soon as I can. Can you tell me a little about what it's like working there, and what the interview process is like? Also do you work in a Mac Pro Store or at a Mac counter? And do you know the difference between the jobs at those places? Lastly, do I have to be liscenced or certified to apply for Mac or can I be self taught? Thanks so much 💋💋💋

Hi! So retail make-up is great practice and prep for freelance make-up artistry. MAC is a great company to work for. Counters expect to make daily goals, weekly goals, and monthly goals. If you have commission sales or sales experience, this is perfect fit for you. Freestanding stores are for artist who worked at previous counters or on a rare occasion hired outside the company. MAC pro is are for experience artists again been working for the company or on a rare occasion outside. MAC is all about artistry but people forget it's a business sale position too. From all locations expect sales goals. Discount is great. Freelancers DO NOT get any discount.

Interview can take up to weeks to months depending on the location. Always wear black head to toe. Jewelry only gold, silver, bronze, rose gold,&black. Make-Up, lashes, nail colour must be all mac(they'll know). Nails & hair must be done always. Heels are encouraged. Dress in trends, dress classy not trashy. They like to see your own personal style, however make-up & fashion must be in trend. Research & Study about the company, the programs, and the products. You ultimately want to be hire by mac. MAC hires artists and places them in locations ie; departments & freestanding stores.

MAC prefers you have some kind of artistry and sales experience. If you decide to go to cosmetology or make-up schools/course always do research.

Any other questions feel free to ask! I will be making in depth video on my youtube about how to get hired for mac, sephora, or ulta. Also on How to become a make-up artist!
