Shine Bright (Even at Work) with this Office-Apropos Glitter Eye

We often associate glitter with glammed-up going-out looks. What better way to turn up on a night out than making yourself into a human disco ball? But unlike vampires and the subject of Hall and Oates’ seminal hit “Maneater,” glitter doesn’t have to only come out at night. There are ways to don your finest duochrome unicorn makeup during the daily grind. To show you how, we put together a tutorial that explains how to use iridescent glitter eye shadow for an office-apropos look that still manages to shine.

A quick note before we get into it: For this look, we used Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows in our exclusive Iridescent set, which have a duochrome glitter finish in a liquid formula that eliminates messy fallout. Like most cream and liquid shadows, they work best with synthetic brushes. The formula sets to a dry-touch, budge-proof finish (a lot like a liquid lipstick), so its best to blend them out soon after you apply them.

What You’ll Need:
STEP 1
Prep Your Skin

Start with your normal primer and foundation routine (if you have one). Since the eyes are the focus of this look, we prepped our model Crystal V.’s skin with moisturizer and light-coverage foundation for a dewy, natural finish.

STEP 2
Apply a Base Color to Eyes

Choose a flesh-toned shade of powder eye shadow and dust it all over your eyelids with a fluffy eye brush. We used the shade Individual, a peachy beige, from Stila Eyes Are The Window Shadow Palette in Soul and applied it with Smith Cosmetics 247 Flat Round Crease Brush.

STEP 3
Apply a Wash of Sparkle

Using the wand applicator, apply a small dab of Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Duo Chrome in Embellish, a light lilac with bronze reflects, to the center of your eyelid. Blend out across your entire lid. We recommend a flat synthetic brush, like Chikuhodo AF Series AF-5, when working with cream and glitter shadows. (Makeup artist’s tip: Do one eye at a time so that you have enough time to blend before the shadow dries down.)

STEP 4
Define the Outer Corner

Apply Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Duo Chrome in Dollish, a shimmering pink with gold pearl, directly onto the outer edge of your eye with the applicator wand. Working quickly, blend towards the center of your eyelid. Once the shadow has dried down slightly, go back to the outer corner and lightly blend outward.

STEP 5
Brighten the Inner Corner

Apply Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Duo Chrome in Stylish, a sheer platinum with gold pearl, to your inner corner with a synthetic precision brush, like Chikuhodo AF Series AF-6. While the shadow is still wet, slowly blend it out to the center of your eyelid with your synthetic brush. As it’s drying down, soften the edges with a back-and-forth motion.

STEP 6
Add Dimension to the Crease

Sweep a deep, neutral shade of eye shadow (we used shade Being from Stila Eyes Are The Window Shadow Palette in Soul) into your outer crease, right above Dollish. Blend up and outwards with your fluffy eye brush. (Makeup artist’s tip: Tap a little more Embellish onto the center of your lid to really make your eyes pop.)

STEP 7
Add the Finishing Touches

To finish the eye look, line your upper lashline with a brown eyeliner (we used Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Espresso). Curl your lashes and apply mascara. You can add false lashes for extra drama if desired. (Makeup artist’s tip: Smudge your nude eye shadow shade along your lower lashline for more definition.)

STEP 8

Complete the Look

For the final step, apply a light wash of bronzer and blush to the cheeks for natural-looking warmth. We used Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer and Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic in Love is the Drug here. Apply your favorite nude lipstick (Crystal V. wears Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in Pillow Talk) or another neutral shade of your choice.
