The Vaseline Lash Lift Hack Isn’t for Everyone—Here’s What You Need To Know

If you ever find yourself on beauty TikTok, you’ll be inundated with endless hacks you would have never thought to try on your own, i.e. slugging. Some are questionable, others intriguing, and a few have actually forced me to switch up my beauty routine. The latest craze that stopped me mid-scroll? A vaseline lash hack that some folks are ditching mascara for.

What you need

With stick-straight lashes that require multiple coats of mascara for noticeable results, I’ll try anything. Plus, I already had the three necessary products lying around: Vaseline (or any kind of petroleum jelly), a spoolie, and an eyelash curler (I swear by Kevyn Aucoin’s).

How to do it

Not only do you just need 3 simple items, there are also only 3 quick steps required.

Step 1: Apply Vaseline to either your lashes or the base of the lash curler—I went with the latter.

Step 2: Clamp the curler on your lashes and hold it for at least 10 seconds.

Step 3: Comb your lashes with a spoolie—I did this while the lash curler was working its magic.

The results

I had full intentions of inserting a dramatic before and after image here; but, I’m bummed to report that the hack did absolutely nothing for me. However, everyone’s lashes are different and there are a slew of unbelievable transformations online—darker, longer, curled lashes that last. Don’t let my stubborn lashes keep you from giving this hack a try—after all, you may never need mascara again. As for me, I’ll stick to my go-to Hourglass mascara for the time being.

Note: I was concerned with getting Vaseline in my eyes, but the steps were pretty mess-free and didn’t irritate my eyes. Try starting with a little bit of Vaseline to be safe and avoid any irritation.
