5 Steps for Applying Falsies in Under 5 Minutes

Would you wear false lashes on the daily? Beautylish Creative Production Associate, Desirey Ayers, has been slaying strip lashes everyday for 2 years. “It’s addictive. And wearing them is definitely a confidence booster,” said Desirey.

The allure of adding depth to natural eyelashes in minutes influenced her decision to incorporate falsies into her morning makeup routine. While fumbling with glue and placing strips on half-awake eyes sounds daunting, Des says that application takes her less than five minutes with her lash tips.

Here are Desirey’s timesaving instructions to get lash-altering results that last all day without lifting!

STEP #1: How should you prepare your false lashes before applying?

Desirey’s Tip: Before applying glue, measure the lashes to your eye shape first and cut them to size. To help prevent my lashes from lifting on the corners of my eyes, I like to roll the lashes around something cylindrical, like a tube of mascara. This helps the lashes better adhere to the curvature of your lid and look more natural.

STEP #2: What are the best practices for applying glue?

Desirey’s Tip: I enjoy using eyelash glues with brush tip applicators. This way, I have more control over how much glue I use and where exactly to apply it. Plus, it makes less of a mess! I typically brush along the entire lash band and add extra on the corners to avoid lifting throughout wear. For a more secure hold, you can also apply a thin layer of glue directly along your lash line for a double-adhesive effect.

STEP #3: When and how do you apply to your eye?

Desirey’s Tip: Apply lash glue to both of your false eyelashes and have them sit for about 30 seconds to dry. Place the band as close to your lash line as possible, adjust the corners and press down for 5-7 seconds. The proper way to apply false eyelashes would be with tweezers, but I found that applying them with my acrylics or long nails works the same in terms of precise placement.

STEP #4: How do I merge my natural and false lashes so they don’t separate?

Desirey’s Tip: Wait one minute for the glue to completely dry. After that, use a lash curler and mascara to ensure that your false and natural lashes don’t separate. Place the curler as close to your lash line as possible and give your lashes a gentle squeeze. If you’re wearing synthetic lashes, add a bit of mascara to seal your lashes together. I recommend BADGal BANG Volumizing Mascara. The bristles on this wand coat every eyelash and give your eyes a bold look (even if you’re not wearing false eyelashes!). For high-end lashes, avoid getting mascara on them. Curl your natural lashes and apply mascara before you place these falsies.

STEP #5: Wait, what about eyeliner?

Desirey’s Tip: I found that if I apply liquid eyeliner prior to adding false lashes, they don’t stay in place throughout the day. Lifting is more prone to happen if the base of the lash line isn’t clean at the time of applying, which is why I like to apply my eyeliner afterwards.
