How Vintner’s Daughter Hopes To Impact Your Skin (and the World) Positively

2

If you’ve become more conscious of where you’re hard-earned dollars are going, you’re not alone. After digging deeper into how businesses operate and where their revenue goes, I’m happy to report that my findings made me want to buy and support Vintner’s Daughter even more. Not only is their skincare all natural and incredibly efficacious, they also support and donate to organizations I can feel good about. They’re on a mission to make a positive impact on the world—through everything from protecting the environment to empowering women and children—a mission I can get behind. Here’s more from Vintner’s Daughter Founder April Gargiulo.

Please tell us a bit about your give-back initiatives.

I always believed Vintner’s Daughter exists to not only impact your skin positively, but to extend that impact to the communities and world we share. That’s why social and environmental responsibility are infused into every aspect of our business. From day one, we’ve donated 2% of revenue to charities benefiting women, children, and the environment, such as Vitamin Angels, Futures Without Violence, and Every Mother Counts.

I still remember writing that first, admittedly small, check shortly after starting Vintner’s Daughter, and how exciting it was to be able to support these incredible organizations. Giving back is so core to our values, and the ability to write larger checks each year has been such a gift. We also view responsible, sustainable sourcing, packaging, distribution, and voluntary certifications as important ways of giving back and having a positive impact. This way of operating requires more time and resources, but I believe it is the best way to do business.

Why did you choose these causes?

As a female-founded, women-owned business, we’re intentional in supporting and donating to charitable organizations and nonprofits dedicated to protecting, educating, and empowering women and children around the world. And, as a natural skincare brand with deeply rooted respect for Mother Earth, we support the work of those helping to preserve our natural resources and promote sustainability.

Each year we select more than ten charities making an impact and donate funds to help support the incredible work they do. A few of the charitable organizations that we support include Every Mother Counts, Futures Without Violence, Project Night Night, Vitamin Angels, Color of Change, Girls Not Brides, New Story, Black Lives Matter, OLE Health, NAACP, National Women’s Law Center, Black Futures Lab, Dress For Success, Tipping Point, and charity: water.

Why was it important to incorporate a give-back component to your business model?

Gratitude is at the heart of everything we do at Vintner’s Daughter. Gratitude means acknowledging all that has been given and joyfully giving in return. Both in my home and the larger community, there is a belief that we all have ways to give back, whether that is time or money or education resources. One of the beautiful traditions in Napa Valley is this idea of “a rising tide lifts all boats." The idea that there is room for everyone and what lifts individuals lifts us all. This applies to our environment too because we can only be as healthy as our earth.

What kind of impact do you hope your contributions will make?

Ultimately, our hope is that the contributions we make every day can play a role in creating a brighter future for our communities and the planet. Some of our contributions help to minimize environmental impact, like the 2,222 metric tons of carbon emissions offset through forest protection efforts in partnership with The Conservation Fund. We also support the critical work of over 26 new female leaders in climate and environment justice through our support of the U.S. Grassroots Accelerator Program in partnership with Sierra Club. For women and children in need, we’ve provided over 200,000 pregnant mothers, babies and children with life-changing vitamins through Vitamin Angels, served 30,000 meals to children impacted by COVID-19 school closings in partnership with Feed The Children, and donated over 100,000 diapers to families affected by natural disasters through our support of Baby2Baby. We have built wells in Uganda to bring clean drinking water to two villages with charity: water and fully funded two homes for families affected by natural disasters with New Story.

Understanding and sharing the impact of our contributions is important to us and our community, and there is a full list of our efforts on our website that we continue to update. We could not do this work without our extraordinary community who make it all possible.
