Hailee Steinfeld looked gorgeous and romantic at this year's Costume Institute Gala. Learn how celebrity makeup artist Stephen Solitto enhanced Hailee's signature soft beauty.
“Hailee is such a beautiful, strong young woman. She's as sweet and honest as you'll ever meet. This is her first Met Ball and the experience will be unforgettable. Our inspiration was Juliette—as in Romeo and Juliette. Romantic, soft, young and beautiful.
To start, I moisturized her face wit, CHANEL Sublimage La Creme. This is a beautifully whipped moisturizing cream that is heaven on the skin—If you can treat yourself to one product this season this would be it. After moisturizing, I used CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige–Tendre, lightly just to even out her skin.
Hailee’s eyes are the most beautiful golden brown color. To bring out the gold and to complement her gorgeous romantic dress, I chose CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Spices. From the lash line to her eye brows and underneath the lash line I used all gold to reflect the gold in her eyes and make them sparkle. On her lids I used the beautiful cinnamon brown to make them pop and to work off the color of the dress.
To strengthen her lash line, I lined with CHANEL Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso and then layered the deep plum from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige over to soften that line. I topped her eyes off with CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. On Hailee's cheeks, I used CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Dust in her hollows. Then to warm it up, I dashed CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Corail on her apples. And of course one of my favorite features are the lips. I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Elise to richen up the color and deepen the tone just on the bottom lip. Then on her whole lip I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Fetiche for a rosy healthy pink. She looked stunning and charmed the red carpet.”
Celebrity hairstylist Alex Pollilo styled Hailee Steinfeld’s hair with Ookisa Haircare for the Met Ball. They wanted the look to be very soft and romantic but with great texture. Polillo used Ookisa Replenishing Conditioner and Ookisa Instant Volumizing Soufflé to achieve this modern- day “ Juliet inspired Look ." He first applied a tiny amount of Ookisa Replenishing Conditioner to freshly washed hair, combed through, and left it in. Next, he applied a generous amount of Ookisa Instant Volumizing Soufflé at roots and rough dried—he tilted the head upside down for added volume. He finished blow drying hair smooth with a round brush using medium sized sections, and sprayed a light mist of hairspray through her locks. Taking 1" sections, waved all hair with a 1" curling iron and held on for approximately 10 seconds to release and cool. After curling the sections of the hair, he used a flat brush to break up and brush out the waves, scrunching a bit of styling creme into the hair to reform curls a little. He pulled the front pieces back and securely pinned them by crossing bobby pins.
