I was just curious. I was in Sephora today and I find so many of the employees have caked on makeup. Some of them look really good but on some you can clearly see the outline of where they've applied foundation.

Every time I'm in Sephora they have caked makeup. The same people every time too. It worried me that if they do my makeup that's how I will look.

Ugh I know. The closest location has a "less is more" vibe, and they all look amazing. But at west Edmonton mall, where there's tons of customers and 15+ employees at any time. And they are super caked on, it looks like they applied it in the dark lol.

I agree Sabrina it kind of makes me not want them to do my makeup because I feel like it will look all cakey.

The one time I went to MAC here in the US the girl who did my makeup didn't know what she was doibg. She had to have someone else do my makeup halfway through. What.

I guess it all depends on the location. like over here honestly everyone at MAC looks horrid, but not Sephora. But at another mall an hour away from me that MAC was good lol.

It depends on the individual to me. Both companies actually don't require for you to be a make up artist or even have experience in the field of make up - so I can't help but assume that the employees with the foundation lines are most definitely not make up artists. ( I'm not sure about other locations and their policies ).

Exacly. Whn I walk in to those stores I already have a list of wht I'm wantn to buy. I'm not expecting thm to help me bc they are not professionals. I don't mind if your a MUA or not. It dosent matter to me bc I've seen some girls have it down and thyr self taught. But if it looks cakey yea I won't ask or take advice

I don't really ever shop at MAC but there's only been a couple instances of really bad makeup I've seen at any of the Sephora's I've gone to. Most of them have their makeup on point or they aren't wearing anything that's super noticeable so it's hard to judge. I think lighting has a lot to do with it too. Some of the lighting in the stores is terrible so I don't always think it's the actual makeup application itself. Sometimes, definitely, but not always.

I have to agree with MG, there's a few girls my age that are "MUA's" and if I'm being honest I could do 10 times better, and I'm not that good.

I say a girl at sephora who outlined her lips three times the real size and put lipstick over it I couldn't help but stare

Not everyone knows how to apply makeup perfectly.
I Know that the Mac by my house some of the girls cake up their makeup to the extreme, while some looks extremely flawless.
I mean it's guess who you are and how you apply your own makeup.

I went to a Sephora in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this past winter and the employees there had impeccably gorgeous makeup. The girl who ran me through the check out had some of the most beautifully applied eyeshadow I've ever seen.

I've got over 8, I think 15 actually, Sephora's in a 30 mile radius of me and I've only been to 6 of them. The women at my Pentagon City Sephora do an amazing job, the women at my Woodbridge store are really 'eh' and minimal. So it really varies from location to location.

I do see what you ladies are saying about the girls on mac and sephoras makeup I've seen some bad makeup worse then that some horribal horribale advise, but I don't think its fair for us to generalize it and say that all of them have bad makeup I find it a bit disreaspectful cuz we have some girls here that work for mac and sephora and are really talented, hope I didnt offend anyone

I hardly ever shop at Mac but the times I have been there I've not liked how they looked or treated their customers. Sephora is better in my experience but their makeup is not the best

The girls at my local sephora always have very nice classy makeup, never overdone or cakey.

The sephoras around here are always so different. either they wear almost nothing or they go overboard with glitter and colorful lipstick. what I find strange is that some of them don't look good (I mean this in the leadt offensive way possible) like... I always look for the girl with nice makeup for help. I just can't trust the others lol. I'm sorry for my judgmental-ness. however I've almost never seen a mac employee look bad lol.

But then again. even though its about makeup, its mostly about sales. I work in a high end fashion clothing store and ill be the first to admit I don't dress that well hahah.

Working for one of the two companies I actually find this conversation quite interesting. I can honestly admit there have been some mac and sephora stores where I think the makeup was overdone or not done properly, however it's all about personal preference and who am I to judge what someone else chooses to wear.
May 3, 2014
Tiffany B.
Also keep in mind that there are days where they may be required to wear a certain look.

Yeah I think it also depends on the location. I hope this topic doesn't offend anyone who works in these stores or knows someone who works in them. I just thought it would be interesting to see what people think of employees in the industry. it's all personal preference of how they wear their makeup and I've seen both beautiful and horrible work lol.
