Washing makeup brushes with dish soap?

Right now I clean my makeup brushes with a mix of 1 part original Dawn dish soap and 1 1/2 parts olive oil, and swirl my brushes around in the mixture on a dinner plate. I figured since Dawn is gentle enough to clean oil sludge off baby ducks and other wildlife in oil spills, it should be gentle enough to clean my brushes without wrecking them...right? Or should I just use baby shampoo instead of the Dawn? Just a curious question.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with using Dawn. it's actually what I use too :p haha.

I've used both dawn and baby shampoo with olive oil and honestly dawn does a much better job. When I use baby shampoo and olive oil I have to use a lot more product and try a lot harder to get them clean clean!! Dawn is a good way to go if you mix it with olive oil. Been doing this for a long time and never had a problem. Have had my brushes forever and they are in great condition!

I just was curious because someone said "You wash your brushes with DAWN?! You should wash them like you would your hair!!" And I wouldn't wash my hair with Dawn...but my shampoo does a sh*t job of cleaning my brushes.

Yeah shampoo doesn't work for me, dawn actually is my favorite too :)

Its better to use hand soap and luke warm water, dish washing soap can dry out your skin.

I agree, dish soap does a much better job. And it's antibacterial where as baby shampoo isn't. Because it's shampoo it will still clean and disinfect to an extent but usually dish soap has more antibacterial benefits and gets oilier products out better.
