Usually, the tape is pulled off. I do nails ALL THE TIME. lol. but what I do is paint the desired color underneath, put the nail tape on, then paint and remove. that's the best method I've done.

Like, silver underneath, put the tape on, paint what I want, then carefully pull the tape off with tweezers.
