Oil based foundations are terrible for acne prone/oily/ sensitive skin. When in doubt stick with water based foundations though these may have a tendency to be more liquid and slip and slide. Most Primers are silicone based bc silicone fills in pores and fine lines.

Yes Silicone can definitely prevent your skin from breathing which can cause breakouts. I've always heard to not mix a silicone primer with a water base foundation and vice versa. The reason being is because it makes your foundation look clump and very hard to blend into each other. Products made from the same thing (oil based, water based, etc.) will blend together better.

How do you know if a product is water or silicone based? Does it say on the package/bottle?

Okay thanks Jacqlyn! I just bought some Loreal True Match today and was looking at it and one of the ingredients says methicone. So is it silicone based?

I've been googling and the foundation I use now is apparently silicone based so I should be okay hopefully 🙏
I've yet to try any Revlon foundations. A ton of people have recommended Colorstay but then I've also heard really negative reviews about it, so I decided to not try it yet.

Goodness Jacqueline, I love how in depth you are! In fact, I'd read an entire article about the history of foundation and different types!
Just to add to your write-up, and Shannie, to your question about mixing different types of primers and foundations - in general, oil-based and water-based don't mix. Think putting oil in water; it just sits on top. So if you're using an oil-based primer and a water-based foundation, the foundation is more likely to slip right off, because it's not adhering or mixing with the primer (and vice versa, for water-based primer and oil-based foundation).
